It’s not illegal as it does not impair readability to the naked eye.

It’s also basically impossible to see.

That’s not its purpose. It’s to control freedom of movement and to track people.

That 225 slant 6 is stone ax reliable, for an engine of that era.

It obscures the plate. In MA you cannot even have one of those holders that obscures any part of the writing or tags on a plate.

The problem with the worrying about all this crap is that if they are scanning millions of plates, they are not looking at any one of them. No one cares where I go. No is watching me. Because they are watching everyone else.

While it may evolve into that, I have seen it used to vector cops to vehicles registered to known felons with outstanding warrants, known people of interest in felony cases, etc.

Great for catching criminals.

Not really.

The problem is rarely locating the criminals. The problem is getting the police to go after them.

And of course the question of "who is a criminal they want to track" must be asked.

It certainly does not seem to be tracking actual stolen cars, those are rarely recovered. But it does seem to work as they track people who had the audacity to think that maybe books about how great it is to be buggered by you family members should not be in a elementary school library.

No the law is clear is “obscure” means to make difficult to read with the naked eye. There are tons of cases on this in most every state.

Thanks for these.

They confirm that there is nothing in the legislation that allows or requires automakers to make functionality that allows police to shutdown a car remotely, which was the original claim made.

We owned a 72 Demon with the 225 slant six. Bought it new & drove it daily for 35 years. Sold it to a collector in 2006 with the original engine intact and not using oil. The tranny did get rebuilt along the way though.

Biggest problem with the Dusters and Demons was leaky bodies. Most of them got rusted out long before the engines gave out. We kept ours garaged and still had to stay on top of it.

One time my wife was about 2 miles from home and the oil pressure sending unit blew out along with most of the engine oil. She drove it home with the oil light on. After I stopped swearing I replaced the unit, filled the car with oil and drove it for another 10 years. I made her swear to pull over at once if the oil light ever came on again.

Apparently there isn’t much you can do about making your plate unreadable by the cameras short of covering it which will get you pulled over in jig time.

Apparently my wife was very trainable / I trained her well on that sort of thing. Water pump died on her car some years ago, all the appropriate warnings and lights came on, she got it off to the side of the road immediately. AAA took 2 hours plus to cough up a wrecker, which I wasn’t very happy with. Replaced it myself along with various belts and rollers.
