My personal experience with statin drugs was very bad. Within a week of starting the statin drug (Lipitor) my legs hurt so bad I could hardly walk. I stopped the drug and was perfectly fine in 2 days. Several people I know have had similar experiences.

Don’t you just hate that. Such a great low, and the expense be damned I say. 8>)

Mine too. No heroin for me. She insists I use fentanol. So much cheaper per fix. Damned cheapskate.

I cut the dosage in half and that made the leg pain go away

Bottom line is this: don't take advice...for or against...from anyone on FR.And don't take advice from a single pharmacist.Look, instead, for advice from Harvard Medical School,Columbia Medical School,Hopkins,Mayo Clinic,Stanford, etc.

It's from those institutions that you'll get the latest and most reliable *general* advice. Of course *specific* advice is best sought from a physician who knows you well.

I was put on Atorvastatin, I call it Anna Torv statin.

So far, no side effects. And no Anna Torv.

My joints felt achy and muscle weakness when on statins. Eff that I’ll drink red wine and a low dose aspirin every other day and take my chances.

I have an autoimmune muscle disease from taking statins. My wife is a pharmacist and assisted in the diagnosis several years ago. They are great drugs, but this disease is NOT fun. I canot fun or jump. My balance is terrible. Climbing stairs and getting out of chairs is very hard. And it looks like I won’t be cured.

First part - yes, don't take definitive advice from anyone who isn't an expert in the field at which the advice is directed - and even then, no matter what their credentials, get a second opinion. Second part, NO, don't EVER assume that medical care from any of the 'named' institutions is good. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it's not. It would not be very difficult at all as a physician to clean up financially as an expert witness targeting only the places you just named. Been there. Seen that. Times have changed dramatically in the past 50 years. I'm happy to explain if you wish.

Both my parents are intolerant but it has had no side effects with me. Normal liver function, no muscletone issues and no extremity pain and now normal overall cholesterol. The good kind is still high but the bad kind is really really low. I cook with butter and lard and do not avoid fatty red meats.

Pharmacist today is someone who counts pre-made pills and knows how to charge healthcare plans.

That said, I have my doubts about statin usefulness.

I have nerve damage issues. Statins are a neurotoxin. I don’t need more damage to my nerves. I prefer to rely on diet to reduce my serum cholesterol.

My doctor prescribed statins over 20 years ago.

I never took them. Buddy of mine at work took them and always complained of muscle aches.

No thanks. My stats were good he just wanted to be “proactive “

Yup. See 37.

If you can avoid the heavy greasy food you can reduce your bad cholesterol that way without statins.

I had my autoimmune disease before I took statins(so I never did) and read up on all medications the doctors try to give me. Sometimes you have to be your own doctor.
