I had never heard of Dan Gryder until yesterday when I watched the latest Juan Brown video... I have been following him since the Oroville dam incident.
I guess they had a bet going on this video and were going to let the comments decide the winner but Juan Brown apparently conceded the bet after watching the premier.
Sorry, he may leave out the politics, but the ego is front and center. I’ve watched both him and Juan for years and I’d rather watch the Blancolirio Channel for factual content than Probable Causes for his hyperbole.
The full truth cannot be told in a few sentences—but summaries are really a good thing.
Simple—What is the name of the person who claims to be D.B. Cooper?
That just needs a one word answer.
Is he still alive?
That just needs a one word answer.
Was he investigated by the FBI?
One word answer.
What happened to the money?
That might take a few words.
If people are interested in more details they can watch the video.
No, you don't have time, don't watch it, do something else. Everyone else. Especially everyone that follows "Dan Gryder, blancolirio, and Probable Cause:"; you'll love it.
Only regret, I didn't get a $50 "DTSB" hat at "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9nX5ZGfzMk" they sold out.
“D.B Cooper” was a made up name, made up by the FBI. The perp bought the ticket with the name Dan Cooper (no “B”).
The money went to Reno and Vegas to be laundered, some (most?) was lost when he bailed out.
The man’s name was Richard McCoy. He died long ago, but not while jumping out of airplanes.
JB is a big government liberal. His answer to every problem is more and stricter regulation. No thanks, I get enough of that from the MSM.
Dan showed that the FBI actually went to D.B. Coopers house in Southern Oregon while the hijacking was still happening and he was sitting there watching TV at the time... so I can’t figure why that was the name that got attached instead of simply Dan Cooper if they really believed somebody planning to hijack a plane would board it using their real name...
Really? I never thought of him that way. I don’t tend to watch the Otterville dam stuff, but I thought JB was reasonable. I’ll have to listen more closely. My go-to guy though is Scott Perdue. I’d love to have his Bonanza.
Obviously we both share a passion for aviation-related video. You ever check out Jimmy’s World? The guy’s a hoot.
I’ll have to check that out.
I came up through the civilian aviation world, JB is like my brother who came up in Navy aviation. Very same mindset. Never saw a regulation he didn’t like, nevermind what it costs. And make it more onerous every year.
No one ever accused the FBI of being smart or telling the truth.
Gryder is abrasive, but he tells it like it is. I was interested in seeing what he had to say, but was blown away by his presentation. I watched every minute after only intending to go straight to the conclusion.
Thanks for posting this, it really puts an end to all the speculation and intrigue.
“Could you post a couple sentence summary to have mercy on those of us who don’t have 2.5 hours to watch this”
On your deathbed?
MAKE THE TIME!
Stay up a couple hours longer. Choices, priorities, = excuses.
Please tell someone, anyone; and, please clap....
I suppose it’s the military mindset. But I still have a hard time watching Gryder. There’s just something about his demeanor that leaves me cold although he’s supposed to be the expert on DC-3/C-47 airframes.
Unfortunately, time, age, and disposable income only allows me the ability to fly via YouTube. Miss the days of just flying somewhere for breakfast on a Saturday morning.
“PURE, UNADULTERATED CLICKBAIT.”
What the hell are you talking about?
If you don’t care about the D B Cooper saga, then don’t click.
Others may be interested.
It is the final answer, no DOUBT.
D B Cooper is NOT his real name (Richard Floyd McCoy Jr. is). He is DEAD. (November 9, 1974) Shot dead by the FBI.
It is said your personality gets more polarized with age, I think DG is a good example of this. In the linked Youtube, there are some older videos of DG, and he has definitely not mellowed with age.
He reminds me of my twin engine instructor, (my primary was done by a German, WWII vet held prisoner by the Soviets till 1949) and he was not one to sugarcoat anything. Probably why I am still alive today.
As he used to say “he is not out to romance folks, just do business with them”.
Summary:
The Dan Gryder video that “proves the case” is up. The video is 3 hours long, so start about half-way. The second half is unique - it is a substantive series of interviews with Richard McCoy’s children, Chante McCoy and Richard McCoy III, who state that they father was DB Cooper. In fact, they claim that their mother was completely involved in both skyjackings AND helped him escape from the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary. Whew. Their mother, Karen Burns McCoy died in 2020, along with Karen’s mother, so the kids are now talking because they feel the family is no longer subject to prosecution.
There is a lot of fascinating family history that is revealed. The sister-in-law, Denise Burns, is interviewed and reveals that she lied to the FBI and was alone with Chante and Richie for the 3-4 days of the Thanksgiving holiday. “Karen told me she and Richard were going to California on a trip,” she states on the video. Denise was the primary source for the “at home” alibi for the 2nd skyjacking.
Note: Chante (pronounced Shaun-tay) was six at the time of the Cooper skyjacking, and Richard was one. As a result, they do not have any direct information on the Cooper skyjacking. Gryder doesn’t acknowledge that limitation and doesn’t offer any concrete proof that McCoy was Cooper, other than the family’s confessions.
Nevertheless, the video is a real treat for us Cooperites. Gryder takes us through 20 years’ worth of his filming, and it’s extensive. We see the inside of Himmelsbach’s home - the one he moved to in Woodburn after he left his 40-acre mansion out by the Pudding River. We see interviews with Dona Elliott and the Ariel Tavern in both its heyday and decline. We visit the actual building for the Battleground VOR station.
The tour of McCoy ancestral lands is delightful. McCoy’s high school in Raleigh, NC, the family home in Provo, interviews with many family associates, who all support the Cooper confession but offer no substantive details. Supposedly, in 1974 while on the lam McCoy confessed to his best friend from Raleigh, Talmidge Mitchell, even though Talmidge was an active-duty police officer at that time. I’d love to know if Karen traveled with Richard to PDX on 11.23.71, or did she stay in Vegas? I’d love to know the details of where McCoy landed as Cooper, and how he got back to PDX, or at least Las Vegas. Gryder never asks those kinds of questions.
BTW: Chante and Richard III were both at CC21, but incognito, and hanging with Dan Gryder.
Note: Dan Gryder sets new standards in thievery and videographing. He shamelessly admits that he has stolen lots of TV and documentarian clips. He interviews lots of people without giving their names (like me), nor does he supply an Index or a reference section to offer citations. Dan readily acknowledges that he has set a new low for journalistic integrity, but claims he had to do it to get the story out.
Another pet peeve: No one in the video pronounces Russ Calame’s name correctly. It’s KAL - am. Also, Bernie Rhodes was not an FBI agent. He was a federal sentencing officer in the Salt Lake City federal court.

Execellent summary. Thank you.
Kitty: Why are you really here?
Dad: Well, we had a reversal of fortune.
Mom: Tell them what happened.
Dad: I bought an ostrich farm.
Mom: Tell them what else happened.
Dad: It was next to a coyote farm.
Red: Great story. See you at Christmas.
Mom: THe lost all our money.
Dad: We had to sell the house in Phoenix, which is why we’re here.
Red: An ostrich farm, Burt?
Red: Who the hell wants to eat an ostrich?
Kitty: Coyotes, apparently.
