I think it’s one of the pieces of the puzzle. How else to make people so dependent that their ability to survive can be removed from them?
As long as I can generate income, I can do what I want. You have to remove my ability to generate income in order to be able to control me enough that I might buckle and accept the Mark of the Beast.
