There was a connection between Russia and Canada? Where was Alaska while that was happening?
There was a connection, but it happened sometime before there was Russia or Canada.
If you take the view that there was a connection between what is NOW Canada and Russia, you could argue that Alaska was recently part of Russia, so no need to get all unsettled about a lost puzzle piece.
