Wow, Flamethrowers are out, and over Atlantis of all things. Remarkable!
Interesting finds. Thanks Red Badger. A two-list ping topic.

That makes far more sense than it being s mythical place that has likely already been found elsewhere, and is still being studied now. There are archaeologists who believe the story of Atlantis was based on the volcanic demise of Santorini/Thera-home of the Minoan civilization-in 1600 BC-there are plenty of Greek stories about the Minoans being advanced people who were also considered sinful/bad by their neighbors-the historical and archaeological record-and recent findings-put it a lot closer to being Atlantis than one of the sunken ports off the cast of of Spain-and as you pointed out-most of those belonged to the Phoenicians anyway...

Plato was not exactly an explorer who based his historical knowledge on actual knowledge of the facts-and he wasn’t born until after 300 BC in any case-a long time after Atlantis supposedly existed-but he did make a good cautionary tale about it...

Humans have been that smart for probably 20-30,000 years if not earlier-trade and exploration was the reason for invention-travel to a place with new people and new trade goods, new women-or even a place to take over if it was better than your place and the occupants weren’t as good with weapons as your guys-no aliens needed. People have always been as smart as we are now-if they hadn’t been, all of us Caucasians and Asians would not have Neanderthal DNA like we do-people had to travel a long way early on to spread that around...

It certainly could be a settlement connected to the lost Iberian civilization of Tartessos, which did exist, @1200BC-700BC. This merged, it seems, with that of Phoenician settlement in the area. That whole region has rather mysterious ruins and artifacts.

The city of Tartessos itself has not really been identified, in spite of several definite mentions in ancient literature. Some say it is near Huelva, where there are visible ruins, some say it was drowned in the marshland of the Coto Donana, etc. Related settlements elsewhere have been tentatively identified.

Its curious how a civilization noted for trade, and moreover a literate one, with its own writing system, has so completely disappeared. Its probably the Tarshish mentioned in the Bible.

Anyway, artifacts labelled as Tartessian are in many Spanish museums, and I’ve been to lots. There is a good display in, of all places, Alcala de Henares. The one in Cadiz is certainly worth a visit.

One of many “Tartessian” artifacts - this one is in the Archaeological Museum in Madrid. Several similar ones are in Cadiz.

This again? There are always “Lost Cities” being found and lost again. I remember well the cities discovered off the coast of Chile, South America back in Feb 1966. Newspapers all carried stories of it. Haven’t heard a word about them since.

That’s not impossible with hand tools. It’s done today hand tools. The only limit on smoothness, leveling or any other measure of quality is patience. Is the person doing the work doing it right? If the answer is yes they can do it with anything. Sure a little easier with modern conveniences, but not always. You just can’t replace the feel of skilled hands.

‘Jude’, ‘Dude’, whatever. It was a stupid song when it came out, and the concensus of the kids on the school bus was that it was stupid. It’s still a stupid song today.

The long running ending.... in the words of Jed Clampett, “Pathetic, juuusst pathetic”.

Although, I’m more talking about the stone cities and finely cut stone walls that are worldwide, we can include the pyramids. The only reason why they say the Egyptians did it is because it’s in Egypt and the assumption is that it’s the work of man.

Although I do believe it is also the work of man, it may not be the work of post-Flood man, or at least soon after the Flood man. The time line of the building of the pyramids is only a comparatively few years after the flood, which is interesting to me.

It was a joke, dude.

Hey Dude and Imagine are just two songs I’ve “rewritten” for parody. Musta listened to Weird Al a little too much in my youth.

Yeah, I’ve ‘rewritten’ a few songs to truck driver lyrics: I’m the Sandman (Mister Sandman), Don’t be Cruel to the paving crew, Rock in the Quarry (Peace in the Valley), Trucking in a Winter Wonderland, Roll On (Rawhide), Everyone Knows its Windy.
