It’s a certainty they would have used UFO press coverage as a smokescreen because they showed a history of using whatever deceit was available to their advantage. While the F-117 was still under development (Constant Peg program), it was being operated out of Area 51 and the Tonapoah test range, specifically timed to coincide with the conduct of the USAF’s “Red Flag” aerial combat training. USAF used the pretense of Red Flag to close all airspace around the test area so the 117s could operate with minimal chance of discovery.
The public’s imagination also played into their hands. There have been a number of military test aircraft crashes, usually at night, and the area surrounding the crash was immediately cordoned off by the nearest available federal agents to prevent discovery of the technology in the crashed aircraft. The Feds would flash their credentials and shoo off all the local police, and in the darkness all dark business suits look black. Which might have been the origins of the whole “Men In Black” paranoia.

The crash retrieval protocols are very similar for top secret human craft and alien craft.

Then we have to logically assume that there are tens of thousands of secret agent nests in every area of the world. Each is logistically equipped to send limitless army personnel, aircraft and vehicles to any location on Earth within minutes.

If you were familiar with the best known couple of dozen alien craft retrievals you would know that the military response was not immediate—in many cases it took a full twenty four hours to mobilize.
That is why the literature has some excellent witness testimony—before the military showed up....
