iPhones constantly “ping” signals which allow them to measure dimensions of the space they are in. This data is compiled and uploaded to Apple’s servers.

Conceivably this could be sold to police agencies or future housing authorities (you never told the tax office you finished the basement and it can now be used as LIVING space? Why, you owe 37 mos back taxes!) or worse - “why, if only you and your wife are living in that 5,000 square foot home, there’s space there to accommodate sixteen Guatemalan families, TODAY.”

And you thought that little “digital ultrasound measuring tape” was just a clever app.

“I keep my location settings off and when I check history, there is none to be had.”

That is just what you can see in your device. It is tracked and uploaded in real time so they already have it all recorded elsewhere in their system.

Yeah, it only turns off your own access, they perpetually upload it in real time. And it is more detailed than the life 360 app. Calls made, texts made while driving, pinpoint location using both cell towers and WiFi networks connected, etc.

It’s what you allow on your phone location wise. Deny all location or only when app is in use i.e weather etc.

Always force stop an app or disable when done and clear cache.

For the most part my cell location is kitchen, Livingroom or deck when active 🤣🤣🤣

Plain fact for decades

“Yes. Imagine the worst ... and it’s worse than that.”

Yep... Every sensor your device has is tapped. The ambient temperature where you are, inertia sensor tells them if you have crashed your car or dropped your phone. And it collects data on every bluetooth device you have synced to it. Even the devices of others around you who have their bluetooth on. They can even tell what your heart rate is if you have it synced with a smartwatch. Anything and everything your your device and synced devices are capable of doing they are collecting it all in real time like it or not.

Exactly!

No longer need to keep mileage logs for Schedule C. Just tell the IRS..."Google it!"

Also, it connects you forever to people you don’t even know. If you’re the Avon Lady and knock on a stranger’s door to make a sale, you’re “together” as far as the data is concerned.

That stranger could be a serial killer, but now you’re connected to him.

Also, people think they’re incognito if they remove the battery (which is difficult to do now, but can be done).

There is at least one other battery in a device.

For the same reason, beware of the search terms you use. For example, somebody with a healthy curiosity about how to pick locks, searches for and watches a lot of YouTube videos about how to defeat locks.

Then there are a rash of burglaries in your neighborhood. Guess who one of the suspects might be!

Yep, guilt by association. They started this during covid to “keep us safe” from each other.

There have been folks who went to jail just because they connected in the same area by bluetooth with criminals in the act of a crime. Automatically an accomplice.

Actually, no. Dinesh's team bought the data to produce the documentary 2000 Mules. Didn't you see it?

What astounds me is that now you can get the same data about yourself for free!

Absolutely, backup battery to keep settings. Just like PC mother boards used to have.

iPhones have “location services”. Go to settings-privacy and security- location services. You can turn it off there.

A phone Faraday cage of some type for most minutes of the day is in order for everyday going forward.

****

I saw a video on YouTube- someone made a large Faraday Cage with a metal garbage can, lining it with cardboard. I imagine scaling it down with maybe a metal coffee can (do they still make those?) or a similar large metal container.
