If housing can be found for migrants then native born bears deserve equal treatment. I’m not thinking highrise apartments but more like single story single family homes near water. Marthas Vineyard would be perfect for starters. And there’s uninhabited houses in Detroit.
Leave Detroit out of this. Michigan has bears.;)
Brenneke slugs ftw.
You are correct, but you obviously know what I meant..
Xfer a young male to the South Lawn.
Amazing.
The historical range literally includes my back yard. [No Black Bears in evidence regionally either.]
We have enough personal/’hood evidence of Mountain Lion activity/presence. [It’s not a question of “if”, it’s a question of carrying sufficient deterrence at which times of day/seasons.]
I knew that grizzlies used to live on the plains from accounts I had read of trappers and explorers. I didn’t realize the range extended as far as that map shows until did a search for it tonight.
Kansas City, both in MS and KS, could use some grizz. Keep the feral utes indoors more. :)
The range covers quite a few other cities that could benefit from grizz patrols too.
Oops! I meant MO not MS.
My wife and I have run across two different grizzlies while hiking in Glacier National Park through the years. They were both friendly fellows.
You realize that bw is not going to stop a grizzly, right?
Most of the time they avoid people. But a few people have been mauled and killed in GNP.
I hiked in over night with two friends back in Sept. ‘94. The huckleberries were at full ripeness. Camped at a lake at timberline. On the hike out we came across a big pile of grizz doo chuck full of huckleberries about one mile down from the lake. It wasn’t there on the hike in.
My companions were taken aback when I immediately stuck a finger in it. I wanted to know how warm it was and was slightly relieved that it was only slightly warmer than air temp. I still felt pretty nervous from there on out because all the berries were well below that point and where we were headed.
Lets just clone some saber tooth tigers and release them all over the place. 🙄
We need Mastadons and Mammoths. Tens of thousands of them.
What could possibly go wrong? :)
[What about the “crazy women”?]
Well, it’s true what they say about them. :P
That's cause they weren't hungry or a mama.
Very useful link.
Thanks.
