I have not tried any of the low-carb beer.
Is it any good?
I HATE "lite" beer!

Michelob Ultra is a damn good beer. 2.6 grams per bottle Try it and you'll like it.
To: rebelyell
If you like Smirnoff Ice or Skyy Blue then try Thin Ice. Only 1 carb and 90 calories.
Mich Ultra is OK, but I never cared for regular beer.

LOL. For years my father and I have brewed our own beer. Dark and strong. So I would have to say low carb beer is NOT good beer. But I'll settle for Miller Lite if it means I weigh 50 lbs. less.
Michelob Ultra is decent, but I wouldn't call it "good".

I'm going to tell you my story, so listen up. I am of Italian descent and pasta and bread is my life! Not only that, my wife being of Hispanic heritage, the carbs are high there also. Some time ago we found out that she is diabetic and she has pretty well stayed on a 45-gram-per-meal low carbo diet and has lost weight and maintained her ideal. I never slowed down a bit in my chomping. I told her, hey, its you not me (I'm a big guy). She then told me, 'that is crude and if you love me, you'll get on my plan with me and lose weight.' Our doctor has been trying to get me to do it for about 3 years - rots of ruck. Finally, about 4 months ago I got the guts to try it - it wasn't easy. Sometimes I get so damn sick of eating burgers (w/o bread), bacon, steak, cheese, etc., etc. Something deep inside said 'stick with it big guy'. After a while I did not have the craving for unlimited carbs anymore and after about 4 months I have lost about 48 pounds. The toughest thing I do is to wander up and down the potato chip aisle at the store, but I have passed those delicious little tuber tidbits by. I cheat - I admit it. Every Sunday I have a high-carb beer. I'll pop a cracker or a Mary Jane every once in a while, but for the most part, the fat is still melting away. The reason I bare this lifetsyle is to show that I don't believe you have to go cold turkey with a no carb or extremely low carb diet. Just stay the course and it will leave you like an exorcised Hillary.
Now here's the big surprise. We just got the results of our bloodwork from the health fair and I have dropped my cholesterol 12 points since the same time last year (its now down to 204). The succulent, tasty, wonderful, glorious meat (extra sausage please) has not hurt me at all.
Screw you PETA!

Thank you for the post, CW.
Also, Haslam's Book Store happens to be my favorite. I love it. I haven't been in beautiful St. Pete in about 4 years, so I am glad to get some news about Haslam's. It is a book store treasure. I could never leave there without buying a load of books to haul back to Panama.
Again, I'm glad to hear that Haslam's is continuing to do well.

Another fad diet that will be knocked aside in a few years replaced by another fad diet that will knocked------you get my point!!! I am glad everybody is not that smart! This fad has been going since the early 70'S.
Eat less,exercise more ------simple!
Add to that - stay hungry ALL the time!

I still brew. I just can't drink as much. *sigh*
Nothing beats stinking up the house with mash.
To: Mears
Low carb has been around for 50 years. Hardly a fad.

I always liked the smell personally.
I ESPECIALLY like the smell of the mix as it heats! Sort of like "liquid bread".... all malty and steamy......

....please do, I thought it was BS, but just started last week and so far have lost 6 pounds.
Other than a little light headness for a couple days, it was easy and I was full all the time.
Try it for a week and see, your mood will soar because you feel great.
Once a slow, not interested in housework kind of person, it's amazing, my house shines.
Of course, my mini breaks are used on FR.

My neighbor makes his mash outside on his Weber grill. His wife won't have it any other way. Guess it must work. He makes some darn fine brewskis.

I'll put my two cents in about Mich Ultra. I don't like it that much--too watery tasting to me. I think Miller Lite is much better and only a carb or two more per serving. Try the Ultra, if you want, but if you don't like Lite beer, I doubt you'll like the Ultra much.
My testimonial: I've never been "fat", but I had put on about 15 lbs. since I got married and just felt pudgy. I tried low cal-low fat diets through the years and I was starving and weak most of the time and hardly lost any weight at all.
My husband and I decided to go for Atkins. I lost 14 lbs. in 3 months and hardly ever felt hungry. Hubby lost 30.
I'm about where I want to be now so I'm just maintaining weight by avoiding sugar and flour products. I do eat a slice of low-carb toast sometimes for breakfast. I don't have cravings and feel energetic.
One big plus with Atkins is that you can have nuts--macadamias, walnuts, pecans, almonds, whatever. That is my dessert.
Atkins is not just a "diet", it's a life long change in eating habits. But it's a change I can easily live with.
