"It's very troubling to have somebody come in and say we're going to charge this mother for murder because we don't like the choices she made," (Marguerite Driessen, a law professor at Brigham Young University)... said.

Really!!! What happened to "a woman's right, a woman's choice, it's her body?"

The truth is, while I would not agree with the decision, I would support her right to refuse to be operated on. Regardless of the motivation, no doctor can honestly say that an operation of this magnitude does not present a real
risk to the woman's life. There is also no steenking gaurantee it would have saved both or either fetus/baby/child!

As for how she looks, how did you look right after labor?

Now, THAT'S a low blow....;)

While I admit to making some assumptions here, perhaps the
medical people involved know a bit more than we do.
At the very least, they acted to protect themselves from liability in this case,
and who can blame them?

Good lord- they booked this women right after labor? Were they afraid she was going to flee?

Get a warrant for her medical records. Did she doctor shop to find an OB-GYN that would deliver without forcing an operation on her?

As I said on another thread: When did Steve Buscemi become a woman and get pregnant? How did I miss this?

Interesting. I don't see this as a question of abortion, but rather of the right to choose what kind of surgery you want performed on you.

A woman doesn't have that choice. She has the choice to kill her infant before it's born but she can't choose which surgeries the state will mandate for her otherwise.

Isn't murder a choice? Are we all of a sudden supposed to stop charging people with murder because it's unfair that we hold people responsible for 'choices' that they make? This choice crap is about as dull and hollow as "seperation of church ans state".

The pictures I've seen of her would seem to imply that she is of insufficient mental capacity to be able to make complex decisions.

And the genepool marches on...

Let's see; she was pregnant for nine months, just went through labor, lost one child in labor, was pressured to have major surgery and has been charged with murder. And from one photo of her at this point in her life you two Carnac the Magnificents have determined her mental capacity and genetic makeup. I predict big paying jobs in your futures; I just don't know if they will be at Johns Hopkins Institute or assisting Madame Cleo.

She didn't lose one child in labor - she lost one child to her flippant narcissism.

"Authorities charged 28-year-old Rowland with murder on Thursday, saying she exhibited "depraved indifference to human life," according to court documents."

That charge should also apply to her having become pregnant.

I'll have to defer to your superior knowledge of flippancy. I wouldn't have considered that in light of facing major surgery.

But then again if it wasn't a legal choice why did the hospital and doctors let her make the choice and assist her in the choice? That should be an easy one for you to answer, Carnac.

I'll have to defer to your superior knowledge of flippancy.

That would seem to be a wise idea - because after carrying a child to term, and then stating coldly, that to avoid a scar, you are willing to let that child die - is a perfect example of flippant narcissism

How is that any more narcissistic than choosing abortion because "it might effect my lifestyle?" That's perfectly legal, why isn't this?

Moving target debate?

Abortions are 99% narcissistic - you won't catch me arguing otherwise.

Where have I posted anything regarding the legality of this case?

I simply have been voicing my opinion that this woman's 'choice' was an atrocious example of selfishness.
