For those who do not follow Indiana politics, Democrats constitute about one out of every three people in the state senate. The likelihood of any Democrat proposal on anything being adopted varies between slim and none. [Much closer to the none than slim.]

Most important feature in a child learning to read is a parent willing to read to them .

Perhaps the worst of these decisions was over daylight savings time. My guess is that it'll probably cause the 'pubbies to loose control of the Indiana House during the elections this fall. I doubt if the razor thin edge the GOP now has will be able to withstand the disgruntled voters [like me]over this matter.

You know, you really need to get over the time thing. There are lots of worse things that could have passed, Daniels campaigned on it, and if you think that the democrats will change it back, you are just being silly.

Buck up. I liked the time the way it was, too. But we can't get everything our way all the time.

Yes they expect just enough parents to be responsible enough to send in tax money every month to cover the cost of this incredibley stupid program if it ever gets off the ground

Well, if all I need to do is buy a book a month for 5 years for my children... I have done my job.

I guess these politicians never heard of the public library. ;-) And, even if they send free books to every kid, who's going to make sure the parents read to them? That'll be the next step - hiring people to visit the homes and read to the kids... lol.

Many of the Indiana House of Representatives seats were decided by one or two percentage points. My feeling is that there are a sufficient number of voters unhappuy about this legislative/governor decision to alter some, or many, of the so-called swing districts. I could be wrong - we'll see in November.

[But my thoughts on this are not colored by my personal feelings on DST; rather as an observor of the political scene.]

Yes this is so funny. I guess kids will just more clutter in their already filled with toys rooms...There is no way kids will read these books. Oh what is the subject matter of the books going to be. "Mommy had an abortion today" and the book will explain how to express you feelings about it and try to be understanding about what Mommy just went through. Oh Gosh, I just gave the rats an idea...Damn. This is too funny. I am dying of laughter at what books they will be giving out.
