Most of the conflicts throughout the world today involve muslims, so how is that an “amero-centric political context”? It is debatable how many achievements during Islam’s “golden age” of art and science were original thinking, rather than borrowed concepts. Even if the achievements were original, how do they justify or elevate a murderous ideology and its adherents? Should we also admire Nazism or Communism just because some great art or science emerged during their ascendancy? How is saying this an “amero-centric political context” when it affects the whole world? — except that as an unapologetic American, I am worried about their plans for world conquest, fine arts not withstanding. That our Islamic enemies want to dominate the world is admitted fact and not “propaganda”. Nice try, Achmed.
Thank you, we needed that. I don’t know why it’s so hard for so many people here to just look at historical artifacts/discoveries as an object and not politicize everything. Yes, we all know Islam is evil. That’s beside the point. This is a tile with repeating patterns on it, nothing more. Can’t we just discuss the historical/mathematical interest of it without going on tirades and repeatedly stating the obvious truth that Islam is evil??
I think they copied mathematics from the Persians.... it is well known ALL Islamic contributions to the world were stolen from those they conquered. You don’t have much time to invent, think up or improve on things when you are constantly at war.

What have they done for us lately?.... What have they done for anyone, EVER?
“Most of the conflicts throughout the world today involve muslims, so how is that an amero-centric political context? “
Because you are looking at an ancient building whose builders are long, long dead in the context of their descendants’ behavior and how it affects the US.
“Even if the achievements were original, how do they justify or elevate a murderous ideology and its adherents?”
Once again, the article is not talking about the 21st century, nor the huge problems Islam is causing.
“Should we also admire Nazism or Communism just because some great art or science emerged during their ascendancy?”
You are welcome to admire those political monstrosities all you want, but I do not. By your logic it is impossible to admire the simplicity and reliability of a Kalashnikov AK-pattern weapon without also admiring Communism. Are you unable to separate the 2?
Better yet, please reconcile your above comment with an opinion on the AK-47 in terms of construction and reliability, remembering your above comment.
“How is saying this an amero-centric political context when it affects the whole world?”
The pattern in the mosque does not affect the whole world, sorry. The article is about the mathematical sequence found in the tiles in a centuries-old mosque.
“I am worried about their plans for world conquest, fine arts not withstanding.”
You should be. It is a problem that almost defies imaginability, and the inevitable nuclearization of more and more islamic states is going to result in the first nuclear exchange since 1945. Clearly you are unable to separate this very real fact from archeology.
“That our Islamic enemies want to dominate the world is admitted fact and not propaganda.”
Once again, you confuse the article about the mosque with current political events, and furthermore you are clueless about what my use of the word propaganda referred to.
“Nice try, Achmed.”
You don’t handle conversation well when people say things that confuse you, do you?
This crap is a politically correct way to praise the moose limbs.
You can think that, yet the evidence for your assertion....?
I would like to see those words on billboards at every major intersection on our highways!
There is actually a good group here called the GGG.
Perhaps Sunken civ will add you to the ping list if you ask.
See his post 52
Deliberate.
And by way of celebration, blew themselves to flinders.
Bob Vila knows tile!
Which came first?
Their (”centuries old”) pattern, then the (current) discovery of order in it; or, the discovery of the math, then their making a pattern “based on it”?
Does the bee know geometry; or did we discover a geometric principle from honeycombs, while the bee remains blissfully ignorant?
Did they exploit & extend the “amazing math discovery”, or just not even notice it...or even suppress it?
What kind of patterns does nuclear-fused sand form?
