it occurred to me how frustrating it would be to get comments on a post and not be able to respond. You've never had your FR account suspended?

And not guilty. Funny....that's one of the few well worn Freeperisms I haven't grown tired of. Probably has something to do with my hetero-normative, male instincts.

My memory banks are getting rusty. You must have wiped them with a cloth...or something. Stop doing that.

Was Microsoft even a company back then? I knew exactly one person who owned a personal computer in those days. I'm talking around '91 or so. I knew a couple of people that had a Timex-Sinclair in 1982. I had a TI-99/4a in 1983. I have upgraded every few years. By 1991 I had already had at least three PC's and I think I was on a Packard Bell IBM PC clone by then.

By 1991 I had already had at least three PC's and I think I was on a Packard Bell IBM PC clone by then. Then you know how small a club it was back then.
Until Windows 95 came out with its graphic user interface, personal computing was pretty much a technogeek hobbiest thing. Most average people couldn't visualize (or justify) the need for owning their own computer.
Even though I was a Wired subsciber in the early 90s, and was fascinated with the subject, I failed to see the coming tsunami, and didn't capitalize by investing in the technology back then.

He retired medically from GE as a Sr. Computer Systems Analyst and passed away of his fourth heart attack in 1979. He was amazed that one HP or TI electronic calculator around that time, that he could hold in the palm of his hand, had more processing power than the giant mainframes he started working with. I wonder what he would think now about 30 to 50 programmable devices in every home?

Firefox, imo, is less desirable than Chrome or Safari. I haven’t tried running Safari, an Apple product, on a Windows 10 machine. I reckon it would work, just haven’t tried it. Safari used to be available for Windows, starting in 2007, however Apple dropped support in 2012.
I recommend Chrome. It has superior reverse-engineering debugging tooling. It is el numero uno in market share. And it didn't fire Brendan Eich, the inventor of JavaScript, for donating $1,000 in favor of California Proposition 8.
