The FBI didn't have this nut-job on their radar, from what I read.
But I'll bet they were watching the 2A Christians pretty closely.
Just ask them - they'll tell you those guys are the biggest terrorist threat today.
Kinnunen also was arrested in September 2016 for possession of an illegal weapon in Linden, New Jersey, after he was found taking pictures outside an oil refinery, according to news reports at the time. An article on the news website mycentraljersey.com reported that Kinnunen said he was traveling from Texas, was homeless and was taking photos of interesting sites.
He was arrested in NJ for having a mossberg, probably the same gun he carried out the attack with.
The refinery he was interested in was in New Jersey. That’s interesting since this guy has a Jersey connection, too:

A New Jersey man is accused of being a secret Hezbollah operative in the United States for more than a decade, surveilling potential attack sites in New York City, Boston and Washington, prosecutors said Thursday.
Alexei Saab, 42, from Morristown, was charged under a nine-count indictment in connection with a range of alleged terror activities. They included providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization (FTO) and receiving military-style training from that group, the Justice Department said.
Even though Saab was a naturalized American citizen, his true allegiance was to Hezbollah, the terrorist organization responsible for decades of terrorist attacks that have killed hundreds, including U.S. citizens and military personnel, U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman said. Thankfully, Saab is now in federal custody and faces significant prison time for his alleged crimes.
Saab allegedly surveilled dozens of locations throughout New York City, including the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square and United Nations headquarters, prosecutors said.
He also scouted various bridges, tunnels and airports, specifically focusing on the structural weaknesses of locations he surveilled in order to determine how a future attack could cause the most destruction, the Justice Department said.

Motive? You forgot islam.
I’m sure that if the government succeeds in disarming law abiding citizens they will be able to keep thousands of illegal guns from flooding across our borders just like they keep millions of illegal aliens from walking across the border and thousands of tons of illegal drugs crossing our....oh wait....
So ... apparently, he trained some of the people in this church to shoot a firearm? Maybe he was suicidal but too cowardly to do it himself and went to a place where he knew he’d be killed?
I looked this guy up on publicdata.com. He was charged in 2008 with a 2nd degree felony for Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. I think the prosecutor changed the charge to deadly conduct, a class A misdemeanor. Sometimes it’s not very clear on public data the timeline and charges.
“pulled a shotgun from his clothing...”
How does one conceal even a sawed off shotgun?
Clever demon.
Where’d you get that? No, the good guy who shot the perp in the head is the owner of a firearms training business and who was involved in forming the church’s volunteer security team.
I googled his name. That was one of the stories that came up.
He was wearing a long coat.
Uh it was Jack Wilson the guy who shot the killer that had trained the ithers. Not the killet
GEESH
Well, ain’t I the idiot.
When I hear about an Alexei Saab who is an immigrant Arab Muslim who is a US citizen working for Hezbollah for at least 15 years who was caught at an American airport with a dangerous weapon, I think this is what our CIA should be doing: Disappearing these people into incinerators then into pigstys.
This is not true!
As usual the media flubs
It was the hero who owns a gun range., where folks learn how to shoot........NOT the perp
Nah ... wasn’t the media. It was me getting my stories mixed up.
Hmm ... maybe it wasn’t me after all.

Glad they withdrew the story.
No
You just got bad information.
Yeah ... thought I was going nuts for a minute there. (whew!)
