Bring 10 bucks an hour of skills you won’t get 40 an hour.
Pure and simple.
Wages aren’t the issue - entitlement to more than employees worth IS.
You’ll never convince me a student flipping hamburgers is worth $15. an hour.
Entry level jobs that anybody can do are just that ‘entry level’. But people today aren’t willing to ‘show’ their work let alone take instruction from those who have been at for years.
So now it’s not the wages that are the problem - it’s workers unwilling to ‘pay their dues’ from the get go.
Nonesense.
That’s so true.....I’ve heard people glad they were let go because they saw it like a paid vacation until their unemployment runs out. I even debated that idea with the party that stated that to no avail.
I recall loosing my job and knew I had to learn computer more than hen pecking it - two days after I was off work I was taking classes and worked the other hours part-time until the classes were over. Within three weeks after I was employed full-time and using my new “skill”.
Only until the government interferes. They have reduced the supply via their increased child tax credits, and other augmented benefits.
Locally, people who were glad to work for $8-12/hour, now refuse to take jobs STARTING at $12-15/hour. Businesses all over town are forced to reduce hours, or intermittently close randomly, due to staffing shortages. Even the Post Office had to close the window one day last week, because there were only 2 people that showed up, making it impossible to work the window, and still get the mail delivered or dispatched.
Yes...like that. She didn’t do her homework.
Government meddles in the price of EVERY commodity. This does that give a business and excuse to not pay the prevailing price fo r that commodity? Can a restaurant NOT buy regulated beef because they don want to pay the prevailing price for it ? Hell no they cant. LABOR IS EXACTLY THE SAME;
Bacon is $8.00/pnd and if want bacon I pay $8.00. IMO It should only be $4/pnd. Damn there must be shortage of pigs....
As long as welfare states have financial perverse incentives to eradicate 65+ year olds, there will be labor shortages.
I’m not selling bacon.. if I was and the market would only pay 4 dollars a pound and the farmer wanted 8 for it I wouldn’t buy or sell any bacon.
Just because someone THINKS they are worth 40 dollars an hour, if they only produce 20 dollars an hour of value they simply won’t be hired.
There is a limit to how much an employee can make a business, for us, it pencils out to about 24 dollars an hour. (2 dollars an hour more than our one remaining competitor) we can’t raise prices any higher (we’ve tried) or people start buying online or not at all.
BTW out here, we raise our on bacon. it’s better and cheaper than that cooperate processed stuff you get at the store. we’ve also been known to give it to our staff.
so get government OUT of paying people not to work and see what happens.
I can’t/won’t compete with a sugar daddy that is paying people not to work.
Ok fine, but if you CAN'T find someone willing to take $20/hr then don't say there is a labor shortage because that is total BS.
I never said there was a labor shortage.
There is a shortage of people who will work for what they are actually worth. I’ll pay you 200 an hour if you produce enough value to justify it.
last applicant has been unemployed for 3 years. “covid” was his reason..
his desired wage? 45 dollars per hour.
I said “we put in the ad $24 an hour for experienced help. you have no experience at all in this field. are you sure you want 45?”
he said “yes”
have a nice day. next!
If I had to guess, I’d say he’s on some sort of government program where he has to look for work, but he seemed to refined at blowing interviews and applying for jobs he had zero qualifications for to be new to this.
That stupid concept only exists in your head.
You will pay the market rate for labor or not get labor. Your choice. Keep you emotions out of it. Employment is a contact between employer and the employee.
good day sir..
We’ll be fine...
you however seem to not understand basic economics.
Va has a deeper problem—can’t differentiate between humans and beef.
I know we have all had bosses like that!
he was sent by the DU...
He told me that they have labor shortages down there. I kid you not!
Two of the plants are border towns. They suffer the worst. His plant is in Monterrey. It suffers as well.
While the wages are cheap by American standards, they are very good by Mexican standards. Mexicans love to eat and the plant caters very nice fare for all shifts, free of charge, as one of the perks of working for us. And they STILL have problems getting enough workers.
