All a cop in that situation would have to say is “I thought he was reaching for a weapon” and the last shot would be “justified” too. Even if there was video showing no actual movement at all. Legally, all that matters is the cop’s state of mind.
So if that standard works for the cops, I say it works for the public too.

So there still could be 1804 style gentleman duels where someone like Alexander Hamilton “wasted a shot” (later found in a tree in the distance) and let Aaron Burr take his shot and kill him?
And we’d have to find real people like Gregory Peck or Gary Cooper to refrain from shooting the bad guy?
I’m surely no expert but IMO this case,if it goes to trial,will depend on where the trial takes place.If it’s downtown Houston he just might be convicted of something. Anywhere else...probably “not guilty”.

In the spring of 2017, lawmakers approved Senate Bill 524 making the offense of abuse of a corpse a state jail felony, punishable by six months to two years in a state jail facility and up to a $10,000 fine.
I wouldn’t vote guilty either.

They would have to prove, he was dead, i.e. corpse, to make that charge stick.
I assume massive numbers of Californians have moved to Houston. Texas should implement a test people have to pass to move there. If your libiot score is above 20%, too bad.
