Missouri’s initial northwest boundary moved as well as Nevada’s eastern and southern boundaries. But they were at the expense of other territories, not states.
The Constitution allows for it however. Both state legislatures and Congress must approve.
West Virginia’s case is interesting. Congress voted for it, WVA voted for it and a rump VA legislature approved of it—VA’s legislature being ‘rump’ because of the late unpleasantness that was occurring at the time.
Same thing with Eastern Washington.
That puts us at 52 states. So we can prove we are shuffling a full deck.
Well they could set up a CHOP zone and declare independence.
I’m ready!
All this is very interesting to contemplate, but wouldn’t it just be quicker and easier to sell out and physically move to Idaho?
Here is their chance to get rid of those pesky traditional American value voters. Also, the population is less dense in eastern OR, meaning more expensive services for people who won't even live in tiny houses.
In name only.
You, like many, have a serious misunderstanding of what Republicans are and what the GOP is all about.
Allow me to throw in a few others:
Nevada was carved out of another state during the war, hence it’s motto of ‘Battle Born’.
Nevada and California has lines redrawn near Lake Tahoe due to a surveyors mistake.
And there was a battle in 1835 known as The “Toledo war” in a dispute over the state lines of Ohio & Michigan. The fact that it’s called Toledo, OH tells you who one,
And in fact, several states along the Mississippi get the state boundaries re-drawn during every spring thaw.
The Kentucky-Tennessee state line was surveyed by incompetents, so it’s a jagged, rather than a straight line.
Tennessee must also have had incompetents working on its southern border, since there’s a boundary dispute with Georgia that has gotten attention because it involves water that will go to Atlanta if the lake is in Georgia.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a large part of Northern Nevada wanted to join “Greater Idaho.” Eastern Washington as well.
The problem is that the larger the new state’s population is, the bigger a government and the more Democrat voters it will have. Spokane may be too much for New Idaho to digest.
Did Virginia get a vote when they lost West Virginia?
We need the vote counters first.
The Wheeling government, loyal to the Union and recognized as the legitimate government of the state by the Union, got a vote. The Richmond government, loyal to the Confederacy and declared in rebellion by the Union, did not.
I notice that Deschutes county, home of Bend and Mt Bachelor which has long been infested by Californians is not in the mix. Hopefully, the taxes in that county necessarily skyrocket.
Hey, I tripped brining my groceries in…..all Trumps fault
I twisted my ankle off a curb…..all Trumps fault
I got into a fender bender….all Trumps fault.
Good Lord, when does it end? Never. As I’m Never Trump.
Wisconsin has a legislature that is almost veto proof. One half of it is, while the other is two or three seats shy. Pleas save your nonsense about Pres Trump. The fact that Evers won was all fraud. All day.
Hopefully, NC will win its case at SCOTUS. If it does, it puts Elias out of business. And renders every court, SOS, AG, Lt Gov, Gov incapable of changing or challenging election laws. Then we’ll see just how Conservative and Republican the, close to 30, state legislatures are that can make the rules.
I’m very much aware. I live in Georgia.
That’s all on the voters.
There are a couple counties in CA that want to join them.
One thing the Dems would not like is that it would shift one or more electoral college votes from a reliably Dem state to a reliably GOP state.
