>>>>Hi; So, the service will be the 17th not the 18th of December. Sorry. Also, they have posted HIS OBITUARY
Helen<<<<
If there is anyone who can or wants to go, the details are in the obit. Also there might be a place to leave a message or send flowers or as he requests, donations to the VFW, etc.
Thank you, luvie.
I won’t be able to represent Texas FReepers at the memorial, so a gift in Rodney’s name is on its way to the VFW.
What a lovely thing to do. I’m sure he’d heartily approve! His visits to the VFW were a big part of his life in Greenville.
Thank you for posting. Prayers for his family and loved ones.
He deserves what we can do for his family now.
Thanks for the ping and link. RIP, Rodney.
Thanks for the ping and obit.
It is sad to see him go.
It sure is. We want to hold on to our friends.
I had not realized that my was so much younger than me.
He became so ill that he seemed older than he was. Sadly. Plus, he was prematurely gray.
That’s a great idea. Thank you.
I believe I’ll do the same.
R.I.P., Rodney.
It is a lovely way to honor him...especially if you can give it to the Post in Greenville, where he hung out almost daily. They might not even know that he is gone from us. :( RIP, Rod! 💔
Gifts in the name of (mylife) may be sent to:
VFW Post 4011
PO Box 9032
Greenville TX 75404-9032
These gift are not tax deductible but will be greatly appreciated by the veterans that enjoy the post. There is also an auxiliary to the post, that has a private FB page:
Their website sends back to one of the bigger Texas VFW sites:
WELCOME TO VFW TEXAS DISTRICT 1
This VFW post does a lot of community outreach and fundraising for veterans and their families. It does seem like a good post.
I haven't attended many of the VFW's in my area but used to frequent my father's VFW post. If anyone is more familiar with VFW's in the Greenville area, please feel free to add to our discussion.
Thanks Luv!
Thanks for this information! Rod spent a lot of time at that VFW post and he talked about how they fed people....and that the food was very yummy. He ate many meals there which was a good thing, because then we knew he was not going hungry when he didn’t feel like fixing for himself.
Ping list...see post #174 for the information that texas booster has for us.
Thank you for the links!
I looked at the VFW site last night. I found the Greenville location and I found the “Donate” button, but I think that was for the VFW in general.
I might call them Monday morning and ask if there’s away I can electronically make a donation specifically to the Greenville location in Rodney’s name. Otherwise, I will send a check (I have a few somewhere…LOL) via the snail mail address you provided.
If you find a link where to donate directly to that post, could you post it here? :) That’s the way I’d like to send it, too, if we can mark it “for Rod” on the donation. Otherwise, I’ll have to dig out my checkbook, too. LOL!
👍
mylife was a really great guy. I learned a lot from him on those gun talk threads. He will be missed and this old world will be worse off without him. RIP friend, you earned it.
