For some reason the US had gotten into it’s collective mind that Capital Punishment should be absolutely stress and pain free. Hanging worked just fine for 150 years! Somehow seeing that loop at the top of the stairs is now too stressful for the condemned.

Might I suggest that a mixture of 78.08% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases would be more humane ...
