"My fellow Americans. I'm hiding out this evening, but rest assured, everything's under control, no need to panic...."

And you "Uncle Fud," will be wetting your bed this evening, as I can only deduce from your drivel of a post, that you are about 3 years of age. As DouglasKC stated in an earlier post, he can't lead if he's dead, stupid.

Now is the time for all of us to come together as one, politics be damned.

But that is beyond your comprehension, I'm sure.

Andrea Mitchell sez Bush has failed to be our "Comforter in Cheif". That's a direct quote.

She said that on the air?

The irresponsible and unpatriotic Andrea Mitchell should be fired. I just heard her on the air with Brian Williams and she said she wondered if "a less than articulate president will be able to rally American support in this crisis."

This remark during a war situation should be the basis for her losing her job immediately. Let's let NBC know what we think of her.

My gawd, she did NOT say that.............!!!!

Oh, now Tom Brokaw is showing pictures of lower Manhattan, suggesting that we, the public, guess for ourselves how many deaths there will be.

I meant that Offut was undergound and NORAD was in a mountain. I've been to Oklahoma and would assume there are no mountains in Nebraska either :)

Offut is probably second only to Cheyenne Mountain in its safety. The Secret Service was wise to choose this location.

The aircraft surveillance and space surveillance facilties are at the Mountain, however, which makes it not implausible as a final destination. Lots of fighters flying around here today -- 'course, there's 5 bases here, including Schriever, where they fly MILSTAR, GPS, and a number of other missions.

Just reported on Fox News that 28 different Federal agencies are being deployed under FEMA. I fear this may be the first step toward marshall law.

I'm sorry, but President Bush should return to D.C. and address the world from the Oval Office.

It's SOP. There are aircraft at Offutt AFB designed to be mobile command posts for senior officers so the CINC and the Generals can command from the safety of the air.

They cannot take chances...it is very difficult for the Secret Service to defend against suicidal assassins. The President's safety is paramount.

Nonsense. Maybe he should play Russian Roulette, too, just to show how manly he is?

The Command Post is under what used to be SAC HQ. I worked there for a year. It's not a hardened site like NORAD at Cheyenne Mtn. I didn't know that. I thought it was supposed to be hardened to withstand a single small nuke, something like a Hiroshima bomb which was the type of weapon current when Offut's facilities were built. I didn't know it was not hardened at all. I hate to ask but are you certain that it is a soft target?

Yep. She compared him to successful Comforters in Chief like Reagan and Clintoon.

Bush should address a joint session of Congress in the Capitol TONIGHT!

Terrorism is theater (among other things). The government of Upper Volta has to scurry when attacked because they are a thin veneer on top of chaos.

Our hired hands are eminently replaceable (by us).

God protect them, but should they die in the course of duty we will replace them.

They are not barons, they are not nobility-let 'em earn their money, for once.

Anyone know where Laura Bush is, and if she's with him and safe?

Laura was taken to a secure room (location unknown). As far as we know, she's safe.

The goal is to keep the president safe and our government secure. That can be done from anywhere.

The President will do what his security tells him to do. He can lead from anywhere, he does not need to be in the Oval Office! Keeping our leader safe is of upmost importance, more so than anyones desire of a photo op!
