Yes, this needs to be aired nationwide, because what's happening in Maine schools is taking place in many other locales as well. We have to give this a LOT of coverage!

Hey, I missed it(O'Reilly). What was the scoop? Is this the real deal? Did this stuff actually happen? Or was it all bogus? We need to know, but this thread mysteriously ended circa 7 o'clock California time.Hope y'all are all ok on the other side of the Rockies, for pete's sake.

The schol authorties can [and I believe that they will] cover it up and play it down bur I believe that it actually happened.

And futhermore, I believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Heads need to roll. A$$es need to be fired.

"Often teachers act as surrogates ... in support of a child who's concerned about what's happening at home," he said.

Poor moron doesn't realize that he has to say what they're being the surrogates for. Of course, if he were to have come right out and said that teachers have arrogated to themselves the roles of their students' parents... If only William McGuffey were alive, he'd so thoroughly trash what education has degenerated into.

I looked on FR and checked out the Denver Post but could not find a story our local host in Memphis mentioned about a Colorado teacher wearing ANTI-WAR button(s) in the class room. This needs exposure too. IF the kids can't wear disruptive things then neither can the teachers.

Keep an eye out for such a story.

Uncle Jaque -

Tar and feathers were invented for this exact case. I don't want to see anyone in a body bag either - but I'm not the one who crossed the line here - the child abusing teacher is the one who has. If this were in my school I would be there tommorow.

This behaviour is totally unacceptable. If we can have "zero tolerance" for bullying, or threatening, or language, or drugs etc - I expect zero tolerance for child abuse of the children of american soldiers.

Tar and feathers are exactly the punishment a sane society would perscribe.

If these people cannot control their defamatory language and conduct any better they should not be teachers. No discussion required.

Emails sent the other day most likely got the story aired on Hume, Rush, Howie Carr,O'Reilly and major newspapers.

Howie Carr today had the best show with call-ins from teachers and students from Maine, NH and Mass; all giving their stories of educators voicing their unsolicited anti-war, anti-Bush opinions in class, even as far down at the 2nd grade.

The Maine Gov's office has returned emails and are treating this as an isolated incident.

LETTER FROM GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

Maine State Governor John Baldacci spoke with reporters this afternoon and among the issues discussed were the national rumors that school teachers in Maine are being insensitive to the young school children of father's or mother's that have gone off to serve in the National Guard.

The Governor was very clear that he is disappointed with the actions of a few insensitive school personnel. Since this story broke on Tuesday, he has been consulting daily with the Commissioner of Education and General Tinkham. On Tuesday an advisory was issued to the Superintendents and Principals of all Maine schools advising of these isolated incidents and reminding everyone that the emotional and physical safety of all Maine students is first and foremost on all our minds, particularly those who are directly affected by military service to our nation. The Governor noted there have been no further reports of any incidents since this memo went out.

At the press conference, the Governor noted his disappointment with the actions of an isolated few, and that Maine people stand together as one in support of our nation's troops, of our National Guard, and the families of these brave men and women.

Again, thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Director of Constituent Services

My lst posting did not appear, so trying again - apologies to all if this is duplicated.

Thanks for this post, RhoTheta - missed this article. This really makes my blood boil - the idea that my grandchildren might be exposed to this "INSENSITIVITY" - blast it all, this is HATE. I don't want to hear that this is "isolated incident(s)" Parents, check what your local schools are teaching your kids. All the more reason to home school.

I saw O'Reilly last night and I am even more angry. He had a Maine National Guard Light Colonel on via phone and there is no question it has happened. These so called educators need to be run out of Maine by lawsuits, firings and criminal prosecutions.

I agree. The PAO was trying to soft-shoe it, but I agree with O'Reilly, the military should sue someone personally over this to make a statement.

I can't imagine this crap flying here in GA. There'd be so many people at the State Education Dept, local board of education, and local school, it would make the Leftists pee their pants.

Re-thinking the "sue someone" statement above, they really ought to prosecute for treason / helping the enemy in time of war.

We need the names of some of these teachers made public. They need to hide themselves away from decent human beings forever.
