Thi sort of stuff is propagated by homosexual advocates to take a shot at traditional families, too. It's their way of saying, "You smug traditional family types are no good, look at how you abuse your wives and kids." It's a bunch of pro- "non-traditional family" (PC term) garbage.

THe problem with your sample is its somewhat biased. Chances are that available women that you are encountering have relationship problems otherwise they would be in lasting relationships. Further, the likelihood that cause of these relationship problems stem from prior abuse is high. Therefore, its more likely that you will encounter available women who have been abused then exists in the general population.

As long as the sex act was done in private, force is not relevant.

Having never been to Utah, I must ask. What is it about Utah that causes this?

About three years ago when the FBI released its annual crime figures for American cities, some wacko group tried to claim that the data showed that Salt Lake City had one of the highest crime rates in the country. The media bellowed about how dangerous Salt Lake is ( I knew this was nonsense. I live here).
Turns out that the data included horrible "crimes" like school truancy, jaywaking, underage smoking, walking dogs without a leash, and the like. Once real crimes were counted, Salt Lake moved almost to the bottom of the crime list.
The media finally quoted a police detective saying that if you aren't involved in drugs or gangs, your chances of being a crime victim in Salt Lake City are almost nil. This rape rate stuff is just another bunch of destructive feminist wackiness.

I take offense to that. It is not easy hearing such terrible stories. And the guys who use that openness to get something deserve to be shot.

I wonder if they are using some ridiculously broad definition of rape, like "have you ever felt emotionally pressured to have sex?"I'll bet these numbers include a lot of "date rape" and aren't just the strangers hiding in bushes kind of rapes.

Actually, to say available women have had relationship problems makes a lot of assumptions.
Most of these women are between 22 and 28. Hardly an age where a woman is single only because she has trouble with relationships. All are college educated and went right to the workforce to establish themselves.

I guess the Utah Jazz haven't yet been informed that there are no professional sports teams in Utah.Well, now this whole story seems more likely.

I'll bet these numbers include a lot of "date rape" and aren't just the strangers hiding in bushes kind of rapes.Acquaintance/Date rape and non-consensual incest are still both rape, and it's important to stop them all, but it would probably be better to have the statistics split into those three categories, and clearly define them, than to hold everything under a single, vague header "rape." That way the information is that much more useful to policymakers.
Preventing incest, date rape, and stranger-in-the-bushes rape require three completely different approaches from a public policy perspective.

Women who have been abused as less likely to form lasting relationships, therefore they are more likely to be unattached the attached. Therefore, their representation in one population is bound to be greater.
I never said ONLY because they had trouble with relationships-, were discussing proportions not absolutes.
As for intelligence, education, etc, that doesn't have much bearing on victim status.

No, ut education does cause women to be more likely to be single later than those without education. That somewhat mitigates the idea that their being single is because of relationship problems.

There is no way that this story is true. Even if 90% of the people raped were not reporting it, there is no way that the crime rates are this high. This is just another attempt to justify male-bashing and special treatment for women.
To: sharktrager
No you are on target. Women have a fairly high probability of being sexually assaulted. In my acquaintanceships over thirty five years of women from all walks of life and economic circumstances I have consistantly been surprised at the high percentages who have experienced rape in the full sense of the word, or sexual abuse as minors. The sexual abuse I refer to is not some uncle who copped a quick feel, but anal sex, penetration using objects, forcing oral sex on the child, as either reciepient or provider.
I will not deny that there is misuse and misrepresentation of of the word rape. Despite this... serioius rape and sexual abuse has occurred and is occurring, in my opinion, in significant percentages.

At least once a year, the idiots drag this stuff out and put in on display; if the rate was that high, even I would rethink abortion.
To: Excuse_My_Bellicosity
A few years ago, in a Sunday School class, a guy asserted that ninety percent of women will be raped. I thought that was out of whack, but didn't know the real numbers, and assumed he wouldn't say something like that unless it was true. Then I looked up the statistics and found it was the exact opposite.
He married a domineering feminist and became a lawyer. Any questions, class?

Some people believe sex in marriage is rape. Some people believe that there can be no rape in a marriage.
