When using HTML the "less than" and "greater than" symbols demark HTML commands; therefore they cannot be simply typed out to produce the display below"
<b> and </b> -- BOLD
<i> and </i> -- Italic
<u> and </u> -- Underline
<s> and </s> -- Strike
 and -- Subscript
 and -- Superscript
<font size=7 font color=red> and </font>-- big red type

If you try that you will get the HTML effect of that code--namely,

and -- BOLD
and -- Italic
and -- Underline
and -- Strike
and -- Subscript
and -- Superscript
and -- big red type.

To make the "less than" symbol appear I used a code sequence starting with "&" and ending with ";". For "less than" I insert "lt" between those symbols; for "greater than" I insert "gt" between "&" and ";". Obviously I can't type that all out in a straight line without invoking the code effect of < or >.

You need to terminate a paragraph with <P>.
You need to terminate a line with <br>. A simple carriage return doesn't work when HTML is engaged. FR posting can be done without using HTML (thus without being able to use italics or bold), and in that case carriage returns are effective in a sort of wysiwyg manner. Also in that case, something which looks like a URL will be interpreted as a URL and a link will be produced.

Tom Daschle is saddened, deeply saddened.

I dunno. I thought Reagan aged a lot. Especially if you look at the lines on his face and his energy level. I know his former Sec Commerce, and he told me the same thing---that Reagan slowed down a lot in the last two years.

Its early yet, but I smell a landslide of epic proportions.

I think you're right on target!

Hi Fred,

"I've never believed CNN before, why should I now?"you wisely asked.

Same with AP's Ron Fournier, who writes today, "An ailing economy and unrest in the Middle East threaten the president's re-election prospects although he remains a relatively popular leader, according to officeholders and activists in both parties who took stock of the 2004 race at the traditional Labor Day break."

We can't believe much of what we read these days...polls are skewed, either by the way the questions are asked, or who responds, and articles are written to either cover the writer'sass, all the bases, or in Fournier's case, to sell his bias as fact.

I'm with you...we shouldn't trust polls or political pukes...ours or theirs.

The CNN/Gallup polls tend to be pretty accurate and more in line with other polls.
Unless you don't want to believe any polls.

Don't get too excited yet. The dems have been beaten in 2 straight elections, and I think they will be hungry for blood, and it will ALL come out to vote.

I'm not saying GWB won't be reelected, I think it's likely, but I would plan for a tight election, and work twice as hard, volunteer twice as much etc. Because we certainly can't afford a president Dean.

Pubbie --- Just for the record, I've been predicting a 40 state (minimum) landslide for GWB for some time.

I do so without knowing who the opponent will be.

Cheers.

I've already contributed once, and plan to do so again. I will get to work with the county GOP this year, too. Remember, if those people who didn't vote in west FL because of the bad "call" had voted, there would have been no drawn out protest by the Goron.

"Maybe Hillary's starting to panic"

Rumor has it that she's not too sure of the New York vote for 2006 reelection....

There is no room for complacency here. We have to work as if W were in for the fight of his life.

Still over a year a way so there is much work to do.

LS: I'm on the west coast, and I can tell you that there are many
GW supporters in Sara/Manatee/Charlotte counties. This part of the state
is pretty secure, but we are working as if we are behind.

As the economy continues to come around...can anybody say "taxcuts"...these 37% might not say it on a poll to CNN but they just might say it at the polls.

I went to the mall today and there was no parking at all. I then went to Costco and it was packed and everybody had their carts full. We then went to eat and the restaurants were full with lines at 3 PM !

I was at Walmart yesterday and the lines were 20 deep !

This is a holiday weekend so it got my attention that people were spending money !

You have an interesting theory. If just 10 large cities attract most of the population, the emptied-out portions of fly-over country have more than 60 Senate seats alone. It would work similarly but to a lesser degree with Electoral College votes, because the ECV totals per state are diluted by total population (House seats). Of course, the concentrated House districts in increasingly urban areas would ironically have the opposite effect. As the inevitable urban decay expands outward from city centers, more voters will have urban D influence.
