Talmudic Judaism is not the root. Talmudic Judaism (aka Rabbinical Judaism) is a younger religion than Christianity.
Both Christianity and Talmudic Judaism share the same root, the temple-based religion of the Israelites. But the Christian tree sprouted from that root around A.D. 30. Whereas the Talmudic Judaism tree sprouted after the destruction of the temple in around A.D. 70.
Christians should not hate anyone. But not because of any imagined special status as a root.

And despite His claim, I have many times heard modern Jews "remind" Christians that Jesus was a Jew.

Ein, Christianity is a sect of 2nd temple Judaism.
What we call Judaism today is (mostly) the descendents of the Pharisee sect of 2nd temple Judaism.
Between 33 AD and 70 AD there were multiple sects of 2nd temple Judaism
1. The Sadduccees who only upheld the Written Torah and the prophets and rejected the Oral Torah of the Pharisee sect.
2. The Pharisees who had that Oral Torah. Note: the Oral Torah gave detailed instructions on the written Torah.
3. The zealots, a branch of Pharisees.
4. Essenes who emphasised reclusiveness
5. The Jesus movement Jews who claimed there was no more need for temple sacrifices as Jesus fulfilled the need once and for all.
You could also add
6. The Idumeans or Edomites who were forcibly converted to Judaism by the Jewish king Yohann Hyrcanus in about 100 BC. Their beliefs would be similar to Sadduccees. Herod the great’s father was one of those forcibly converted.
7. Samaritans who have only the written Torah (slightly different from the Jewish Torah) and who reject the Oral Torah and the prophets. Note that genetically they are Israelites.
When the temple was destroyed in 70 AD
1. The Sadduccees lost their raison d’être and disappeared.
2. The Pharisees too lost their raison d’être but were formulated into a newer version called Rabbinical Judaism. This was done by Rabbi Yohannan bin Zakkai. He replaced temple sacrifices with todah. The Oral Torah was paramount but was written down between 300 and 900 AD and became the Talmud.
3. The zealots also died out
4. So did the essenes.
5. The Jesus movement Jews were vindicated in their beliefs and spread further.
6. Idumeans were assimilated into the people left alive.
7. Samaritans were hit but their worship was around mt Gerizim, not Jerusalem, so they survived religiously.
Essentially this boils down to what Paulwrote in Galatians 3
.28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Jews as a genetic group remain distinct, related to Samaritans and other Levantine groups.
But as per the beliefs of the Jesus movement Jews in the 1st century, the Jesus movement Judaism is the true continuation of 2nd century Judaism.
