My reply was not meant to suggest there were no standards or virtues to be found in North America. I can certainly understand how my poor wording made it seem that way. That was not my intent. My point was that the interactions between native Americans even before outside contact was, on the whole, barbaric. And that the often painted picture of humans living in peace, being one with nature is a fantasy. The arrival of outsiders did not introduce debauchery, it only added new avenues.
The text was written by priests. Primitive cultures were full of supernaturalization of every day life. You can believe what ever about the nature and purpose of these documents. It is just one class who thinks they have a telephone line to what they call god struggling to get or keep the government class under their control. If you want to believe a bunch of sky pilots several thousands of year’s ago really knew anything with their ranting, fine. I don’t.
