Good grief.

Has it occurred to the so-called "Christians" on this thread that this development might be a positive first step for Dawkins?

Having the most well-known living atheist in the UK (and perhaps the world) admit publicly that he was wrong about the good that Christian culture does in the world might encourage some lost souls to consider Christ for the first time in their lives.

Perhaps God is at work in the life of Dawkins. Not everyone comes to him via the road to Damascus.

A religious one would, but if God were in charge, that would not be the case by any means.

FWIW, the Founding Fathers were by and large religious men and established a government based on Christian religious principles.

It hardly threw us into any dark age. On the contrary, as we have moved away from it is when we started our downward spiral.

This is like communist China saying, "Well, we don't believe in representative government or free enterprise, but we have to admit that Americans will always be happier, have a higher standard of living, and be more inventive than people who live in communist countries like ours."

Don't you think that this might be the first step in that process?

Think of all the atheists around the world who have considered Dawkins to be their hero. This announcement is a stunning rebuke to his former conviction and their current belief that Christianity is wrong in every conceivable way.

A person has to start somewhere. As I said in my comment, not everyone gets hit with a bolt of lightning on the road to Damascus. Some come around a wee bit more slowly.

For a guy like Dawkins, this is a really big deal.

Maybe, but probably not. It’s hardly uncommon for people to want the benefits of faith without actually having to have faith.

What Dawkins really wants is for everyone else to follow the rules. He wants to live in a Christian society without Christ. Can’t happen, it’s an oxymoron.

Lots of intelligent people are noticing that western societies are collapsing without the foundation of Christianity. Doesn’t even begin to make them Christians. Belief and repentance are intensely personal.

Which is what enables their shallow “I can be a good person without God” attitude. Yes, the CULTURE that saturates your existence, the one that is all you know, was created due to Christian beliefs.

Now...go and define ‘good’ in an Islamic country, you’ll get a different animal and those that grew up in it will agree - because it’s all they know. ...along with the requirement to be Muslim.

At least it is becoming abundantly clear to some atheists, you can’t just have ‘nothing’ as a foundation to culture and ethics. Atheism has no answer to Islam. The only thing between an atheist and an Islamic beheading is a Christian.

Others never make the connection.

Problems is all those Islamic people really BELIEVE! They are willing to die for Allah. Who in the west is willing to die for Christ? Better start bowing to Mecca. A religious man is almost invincible on the battlefield.
