He wants to eat the chocolate cake without eating the rest of the dinner—classic four year old thinking about the world.

His is a very English response. England is the birthplace of cultural Christians.

Problems is all those Islamic people really BELIEVE! They are willing to die for Allah.

I agree with your comment.

But I am reminded of what George Patton said, "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country,"

At least it is becoming abundantly clear to some atheists, you can’t just have ‘nothing’ as a foundation to culture and ethics. Atheism has no answer to Islam.

Excellent comment.

“…emphasizing his belief that such supernatural assertions are “nonsense,” though he acknowledged their importance “from a cultural point of view.”

He denies their power as he points to their power.

Faithless Christianity has no power. He’s shit outta’ luck.

Dawkins is not that bad for an avowed atheist. Except that 10 years ago he said he appreciated the Bible and Christianity as a guiding force for Western civilization.

So this not new. The undercurrent here is that he sees Muslims invading Britain as very destructive. He sees Islam as 100x worse than Christianity that he grew up with.

It's worth adding, Western civilization is Judeo/Christian.

It rests on a foundation that goes back to ancient Israel.

I am certain Christopher Hitchens, who died 12+ years ago and was friends with Dawkins, would be saying the exact same thing.

Congratulations to every commentator here for pointing out why Dawkins is a blind hypocrite.

Don’t worry Richard.

So do atheists. There is a huge difference between being an atheist and making the destruction of faith in an entire society your life’s work.

You may remember that the Apostle Paul was making his life's work the destruction of the faith.

People change.

On one hand he wants cultural Christianity back. On the other he hates Christianity. What he’s really getting is cultural Hell.

I’m not so sure about that.

The united kingdom was a heavily theocratic and autocratic state with no individual rights. Human rights didn’t exist at that point.

The Hasmonean kingdom (restored Israel) from 200 BC to the Herodian kingdom were places where there was no freedom of religion - the Edomites were forcibly converted. There were stoning of adulterers etc.

Western civilization is a Mixture of Greek Philosophy, Roman and Jewish Law/Legalism, and Christian compassion.

Was pre-American Revolution European culture based on Christianity (though there are clearly both pagan, Greek, and pre-Christian Roman influences)?

Was American culture an extension of both European culture and Christianity (New and Old Testament)?

Is Christ (according to him) the fulfillment of Scripture (going all the way back to Moses and even Abraham)?

Paul repented. Paul didn’t start whining there weren’t any more Christians to kill.

Dawkins isn’t repenting he is complaining about the consequences of his actions.
