What are Putin's motives here?Indeed, that's what I have been wondering about. Call me an old fuddyduddy, but I just don't trust Putin buddying up to us. Sorry. I'd like to believe it, but....

Oh, I DO believe it, but I don't think that guys on that level of power do anything, including revealing truths that could have political reverberations in another nation, without it being calculated and deliberate.
What's Putin's angle?

First he dissed Albright. Now Clinton. I wonder who's next? From that "administration" he has so many to choose from.
Let us remember that Clinton kept Arafat waiting in the Rose Garden because he was "tied up" with Monica. Isn't that a cast of players?
"Reap what you sow." We're now reaping the eight years of Clinton. Even those of us who didn't vote for the jerk, will reap.

What's Putin's angle? Shift blame to Clinton by claiming he wouldn't cooperate with Putin's initiative to combat terrorism? That might help bolster Putin's standing by giving the appearance that he started an initiative before 9/11.
Or maybe Putin is just looking for a free hand to "combat terrorism" within the former Soviet republics.

I got a better idea how about the republican party giving us a good runner for the senate. Rick Lazio a nobody from the middle of the state who hid from the press against the most popular democrat next to Al Gore running in a state that is controlled by the democrats. Oh yea it was the voters fault. Short memory? I thought Rudy Guliani was gonna be the candidate, but before he officially declared, he backed out due to prostate cancer. Lazio was a last minute substitute. Hardly a reason to bash the Republican Party - when there are so many more valid reasons to do so ;-)

We're now reaping the eight years of Clinton. I don't think we'll ever really know all of the damage the clintons have done to this country for years, if ever.
To: Hugh Akston
Simply, Putin wants to score points with American conservatives (alla Netanyahu), the party that supports Bush, because Clinton's cronies are the ones who tolerated the IMF looting that was making Putin's domestic rivals rich at the expense of the country.

Oh no. Now we are going to have to listen to the Cleaning Lady and other quislings jump to the grifting accused rapist's defense again...

Motive? Several.
1.) Putin is interested in a closer relationship with the US, both economically and strategically. China sits on their southern border, remember.
2.) Putin has a vested interest in defeating radical Islam, because it has been giving them grief for decades.
3.) Putin would like Russia to be a major player again, which they will be if he can work out the alliance with Bush.
4.) Putin actually LIKES President Bush and trusts him. He does not like Clinton or his minions, and he is still aggravated by the dismissive attitude of Albright and Gore. Part of this comment is simply payback, and good for him!

True. Arkansas is still suffering from his years as governor. More proof that these parasites drain their "host" and just move on looking for the next victims.

Miss Marple, your post #29, I agree 100% with all your points of Putin's motives.

"Reap what you sow." We're now reaping the eight years of Clinton. Even those of us who didn't vote for the jerk, will reap.Maybe we can escape the Clintonian Curse if we put Clinton on his own island... one like Elba (or like Alcatraz.)

Somone named Snorkeler is on an unfortunate
second posting of this thread, complaining. However, if it hadn't been for Snorkeler, I wouldn't have known this thread was here. I'm going to reply on this thread exactly what I replied to the second thread...the pertinent part, anyway.
Sounds like Putin was really saying "I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but if Clinton had acted like a president, instead of acting like his 8 years in office was one long frat party, we all might not be IN this mess now."
Also, here's a BUMP for THIS thread, too <G>.
P.S.
If you do click on the unfortunate second posting of this thread, open it in a new window, out of respect for Kattrax.

#29 is an even more astute reply than your always insightful comments.

I thought it was particularly interesting when Putin stated that President Bush is a man of his word. We all know that Clinton backstabbed anyone who got in his way.

Clinton's legacy simply put was: babes, blowjobs, burgers, and bullshit. He's the best punk teenager we ever had for a President. LOL! Too funny, and sadly, only too true! However, please insert "wannabe" between "best" and "punk".

Excellent points!

What are Putin's motives here? My thoughts exactly. I reckon he's liking this warming relationship with Bush / USA, and sees this as a way to curry American favor in many quadrants, which he expects (rightly) will bring Russia many rewards. But I also suspect he is not insincere when he says it.
