My biggest thing is that I am one of those who falls in between the boomers and the Xers. I was born in 65, so the 70's cartoons were my favs. HR Puffnstuff! Witchiepoo and Jimmy! the Bugaloos! Most of all, Bugs Bunny was my absolute favorite and still is.

"BTW "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" is a Dishonest John quote."

Is he the source for "Back in Black," as well?

Leading edge Boomer vote for "Moooose und Skvirel." (Say in best Natasha accent.)

By todays standard's, the Rocky and Bullwinkle show is classical literature.

And did you know there was a Russian Tsar named "Boris Godunov?" (circa 1600) What current TV writer would even know that, let alone make a pun/name/joke of the fact?

Good choices, Sabertooth!

Milton the Monster theme song:

Professor Weirdo: Six drops of essence of terror,
Five drops of sinister sauce.

Count Kook:
When the stirring's done, may I lick the spoon?

Professor Weirdo:
Of course, aha, of course.

And now for a touch of tenderness,
But I must use only a touch;
For without a touch of tenderness
He might destroy me; oops, too much!

Better hold your breath it's starting to tick.

Count Kook:
Better hold my hand, I'm feeling sick!

Milton:
Hello Daddy!

Professor Weirdo:
What have I done!?

Milton:
I'm Milton, your brand new son!

grrr--OOOOWWWWLLLL!!!!

Gotta say, VC, I'm very impressed!

When I was in the 5th grade, I was asked to sing
the "Milton the Monster" theme song as a trivia question, and I blew it!
So I vowed to learn it, and never forget it.

You done good, though you left off the spoken word intro:

"On top of old Horror Hill.
In their secret laboratory,
Professor Weirdo and Count Kook
Were in their monstrous glory..."

(cue music...)

OK, here's one for the "Did I really see this, or did I make it up?" file. A Christmas TV show, not sure if live-action or animated, wherein Santa had some PR type advising him to modernize his image. In addition to the new cool threads, he also got a new song, to replace "Jingle Bells": "You Can't Always Get What You Want", by the Rolling Stones. Swear to God.

Am I nuts? This had the feel of a Krofft production, and it must have been around 1969.

i remember a 'wild kingdom' show when marlin perkins was talking in the studio and a hawk was flying around and landed on his head. i was absolutely amazed at how cool he remained with those claws digging into his scalp. why didn't the director yell 'CUT'???? it was hilarious. and then there was the boa constrictor.......well, you can imagine. i guess he had a good 'mutual of omaha' policy! LOL!!! poor old marlin!

Nope, Tarzana. I lived on the Big Island up until about six months ago, though.

I guess age has finally caught up with me. I don't remember watching TV on Saturday. I had chores to do, and then fishing, hunting or just going out to build forts in the haystacks. My dad and I used to watch the Saturday night fights while playing cribbage. Guess I am emotionally scared for life. :-)

Never heard of several of these ... maybe they were local only, or very short-lived.

And how can you leave off:
Bugs Bunny
Road Runner
the Monkees

And how can you leave off:

Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, the Monkees, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Underdog, Dudley Do-Right?

For me, Underdog was VERY close. Rocky and Bullwinkle where cool, but Show-Shine Boy was the man-- er, dog.

Did Dudley Do Right have his own show, or was his was a suppporting series for one of the other Jay Ward classics? I wanted to name the the greatest SHOWS, not cartoons.I wanted to lean toward shows and characters that were created specifically for Saturday Mornings, so that's why you don't see Bugs (created pre-TV) or the Monkees (Saturday shows were reruns of their Monday night prime time run).

to be honest, the shows I picked were ones that were favorites of mine at one time or another, that still seemed to hold up for me. Probably should have found a place for this guy:

Underdog battle cry

When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near for
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog, Underdog.

When in this world the headlines read
Of those who's hearts are filled with greed
And rob and steal from those in need.
To right this wrong with blinding speed goes
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder

Underdog, Underdog.

Captain Caveman rocked!! But I did spend most of my time on Scooby Doo and Land of the Lost. Quit watching Scooby though when Scrappy came along, the show went straight down hill

Good Lord, man. The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Hour!

As a cog of Coporate America, I can assure you that there is almost no situation that is not best encapsulated by a Warner Brothers cartoon quote. (This week was next week last week. This is this week....)
