Just got the following email from David Keene (I'm on the ACU mailing list). Here's the part that pertains to us:

-----

Campaign Finance “Reform” to be voted on in the Senate: WE MUST STOP THIS UNCONSTITUTIONAL BILL!

Today’s second item announces the formation of the First Amendment Action Network (FAAN) a project of the American Conservative Union and the Free Republic Network. (http://www.freerepublic.net)

This joining of forces of between Conservative giants is intended to bring you the latest information about grassroots activities going on in your area and broaden our mobilization efforts to protect the First Amendment and our Constitutionally-guaranteed right to Free Speech.

We’re hope that you will utilize the two links below to join our efforts to stop the U.S. Congress from implementing unconstitutional campaign finance “reform” (CFR) legislation.

Link 1: http://capwiz.com/acu/home/
Link 2: http://www.freerepublic.net/

Once you're logged in the FAAN you will have access to the latest information on CFR as well as the ability to post articles and comments and participate in discussion threads with conservatives from around the country.

You’ll also want to go to www.conservative.org to write a letter to your Senators telling them to stand up for the Constitution and stop CFR. This bill will go to the Supreme Court if it is passed, and IT WILL BE DECLARED UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Demand that your Senators do their job, and protect every American’s right to Free Speech.

*At www.conservative.org there are Legislative Action items on both the C.A.F.É. mandate issue and the Campaign Finance Reform issue. We have provided you with language to send to Capitol Hill for both bills; you can send our language, or create your own at www.conservative.org… the important thing is that you log on RIGHT NOW to make your voice heard on Capitol Hill.

-----

To all our friends at the ACU -- welcome to Free Republic.

One of the things I see coming from this (if it passes and is not vetoed) is a large number of independent challenges to this piece of Big Brother Communist Law. I, for one, will look for ways to align myself with any group willing to take out issue ads in defiance of this law. I fervently hope that (if the worst happens and this becomes law) this law will light a fire that will end up roasting the weenies who enacted it.

If enacted, this law will join 9/11 in terms of national disaster. And like 9/11, we must never forget. Go after the RATS and Rinos who did this to us.

I wonder how many of these sworn defenders of the Constitution realize that they are in violation of their oath by voting for this measure? Or does it even matter anymore?

Damn right it matters! It matters a LOT in fact! This is NOT your run of the mill house bill! This is a DIRECT assault on the Constitution itself and if we do not hold those responsible to account we have only ourselves to blame! Every damned one of those 240 who voted for this need to be impeached! One of those is MY congressman, Jim Turner CD2, Texas and I will assure you that I am going to do EVERYTHING in my power to ensure his impeachment this election day!

If we will stand for our employees in government improperly trying to change the rule book of government (The Constitution) we will stand for ANYTHING at all!

Comw this fall lets remember just who voted for this piece of "reform". And give them a chance to return to the private sector. It seems to me that this is(or should be) a gut check issue.

Bump for a front-line activist cause!!! Thanks to RG for setting up this alliance, and to the great folks at the American Conservative Union -- David Keene, Christian Josi, and a host of others -- for joining us in this effort. Together we can be a juggernaut that rolls up hill. Capitol Hill, that is.

I tried e-mailing my representative (probably the dumbest member of Congress) regarding Shays-Meehan and requesting she vote "no." (like I thought there was a chance...)

Just received a nice little form letter from the dear congresslady made to look personal, even with my first name at the top. Wow, such warm fuzzies.

After explaining that Shays-Meehan did NOT do everything she wanted it to, she stated that she proudly voted "Aye."

The last statement of the letter was, "You asked I vote Aye and I voted Aye."

My letter to the dear lady could not have been more clear that I thought the bill abridged freedom of speech, would be declared unconstitutional, and was a total afront to the freedoms we enjoy in America. Maybe if I'd written it in pidgin it might have gotten through her thick skull?

At any rate, I'm not holding my breath that any e-mail to our esteemed senators would do any better, though I'll give Inouye credit for a bit more common sense (not much) than Pinko Minko.

Thank you for the desired response to my question.

When I received my commission in the AF, I took a similar oath. And that oath is a primary reason why I join this fight. Not because I am a conservative or a Republican, but because I am an American sworn to defend the Constitution.

Some may perceive this quaint, but at some point a line must be drawn. Do we stand for our Constitution or to be ruled by the political elite? I will choose our founders’ vision for this Republic over that of McCain, Feingold, Shays, Meehan any day of the week and twice Sunday.

Join and Fight!
