Some of us who do live in California aren't afraid to say what we think about the state, thanks to Gov. Red Davis. I want to leave this state ASMFP!!!!!!

I lived in Austin twice, the first time I was too young to remember and the second time in 1992 to 1996 and I saw the California invasion. It seems to have gotten worse since I left. I took my wife there in 2000 and it was completely different. Antones was downtown, Steamboat 1874 was closed, it wasn't the same. Whenever we went, it was after the whole election fiasco, and there was a big sign "Congratulations President Bush and Vice President Cheney, from the Reagans." along Congress Ave.

I agree with you also about Chuy's being sub-standard Mexican "food". Chuys is to Austin was Chevy's is to Californians, what I call "Yuppified Mexican Food". Casita Jorges is THE place to go for great Mexican food (oh yeah, and I loved Sam's B-B-Q on E. 12th St. also).

Steamboat has reopened at Riverside and Congress. Cliford Antone is doing 5yrs in the slammer for smuggling a ton of pot, but his club is still open.

And Sam's is good barbecue, but I like Ben's on east 11th and Mueller's which opened last fall on Manor road better.

My husband did his yearly concealed handgun training class last weekend...(we're in Austin)...and the instructor, who was a cop. The discussion was about where not to bring a firearm...and places that serve alcohol were discussed. The cop says that the Hula Hut comes in at #2 on the list of Austin joints serving the most alcohol. The Hula Hut is owned by Chuy's, btw. What do you think #1 is? I have no clue.

I just love it when an aggie illustrates why they're considered such jokes! Congrats... J

The Yellow Rose, a strip joint on north Lamar.

ahhh, yes, such nice boys at t.u.
after a long day of tree hugging, they're still fresh enough
to accessorize any wardrobe or arrange the track lighting
just so!
