Saved by the Bell, LOL. I think I heard the death wheeze of the Republic when I read that. Give me The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, or at least a good violent wabbit hunt.

I haven't watched Saturday morning cartoons since they took Benie and Cecil off. Of course, I'm 49 now ...

When you see someone describe "saved by the bell" as the most notable EDUCATIONAL programming I think we have problems.LOL! OTOH Screech and Belding's routines on SBTB The New Class were lead balloons.

I loved the "Tarzan" cartoon! I so hoped that Cartoon Network would put that on, since they air the Super Friends. I remember Tarzan used to come on right after the Super Friends on ABC.

"But the salad days ended in 1990, when Congress passed the Children's Television Act. Saturday morning cartoons were attacked as "junk food for the mind," and television stations were required to run a minimum amount of educational programming," Making kids watch educational programming during cartoons is like getting lectured from a reformed alcoholic in a bar. Everyone occasionally needs to do something that has no redeeming values.

Hanna Barbera was always crap. Even "The Flintstones" or the early Tom and Jerry?

But the best was "ABC Rocks", I think it was called. I loved "Conjunction Junction", "I'm Just a Bill", "Ollie, Ollie, Ollie, Get Your Adverbs Here", "Nouns", "The Verb Song", all of those were great! Wow, that brings back memories.

Hmmm, that one doesn't ring a bell to me. But then again, I might be just a few years older than you - by the time GI Joe and the Transformers came along, I had pretty much moved on, having discovered the virtues of girls and those "Solid Gold" dancers ;)
After school was almost as good, me being the classic "latchkey kid" before the term existed. One of the UHF stations in Dallas (39? 21? 27? one of them...) used to run a steady diet of imported anime cartoons like "G-Force" and "Star Blazers" after school - tres cool when you're in the third grade ;)

I think because the White House was trying to reach out to females and moderate voters, and this was a way in which to do that. I think Oprah saw it as being used by the White House.

I gave up ballet (or pitched such a fit my mother caved about lessons) for Johnny Quest!
Now thanks to VCR's cable and TIVO, Saturday tutu fights are obsolete.
