A person once asked me what good a handgun would do against a Cobra helicopter. My reply:"You shoot the pilot in his bed at night."

Don't fight an army with a handgun. If you ever get into such a situation, go after the civilian leadership. It's much more effective.

In the common parlance of today's military professional a handgun is an: Asymetric Threat

It is, and really always has been, a head game.

Thanks for a great article, harpseal, one that ought to be taken to heart and acted upon. There's one thing I'd like to add and it's Get thee to the range and practice, practice, practice.

Bottom line for any people..
Who do you trust more to have a weapon (any weapon);
You or the government?

There are many maxims about this:
The people are always one meal away from revolution.
The people vote their wallet.
The people vote for the guy who gives them more free stuff.

The founders established who they trust, and it was not the
goverenment. (any government)
Those that are the professional politicians, constantly seek
to change this.

So, who do you trust?

CAMP GUNFREE.
A common sense and historically proven way to keep those dangerous and destructive GUNS out of YOUR life.
MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE NOW!
Details below

Concerned about the easy availability of guns in our society?

Alarmed about the "gun nuts" and other freedom wackos the government allows to run loose?

Wish the government would just repeal the Second Amendment and confiscate all the guns because you believe sensible people shouldn't suffer because of some idiotic notion about some antiquated “right?”

While we can't take the guns away from the people, we CAN take the people (or at least SOME of them) away from their guns.

At CAMP GUNFREE, we have created an atmosphere of near-total tranquility where you and your family will experience the benefits of a GUN FREE environment.

The unique main gate at Camp GunFree. Most arriving camp guests never see this view from their comfortable rail cars.

Each of our camps is a gated community designed to keep guns away from camp guests. Firmly enforced security measures ensure that these dangerous and destructive devices are kept outside. Each camp boasts 24 hour, 7 day a week sentries and state-of-the-art enclosure systems, guard dogs, trenches and surveillance equipment to absolutely GUARANTEE that no firearms enter the facility. Rigidly controlled access ensures that no guns can ever be smuggled in.

No cost has been spared to ensure that Camp GunFree remains gun free.

All camp members are given distinctive uniforms to distinguish them from any gun-toting barbarians who might attempt to evade our security measures. Each camp member is also assigned a distinctive ID number to ensure that only the right people are allowed within the camp.

Room and board are provided to each member in exchange for rewarding tasks designed to provide a sense of accomplishment and to demonstrate that large numbers of people CAN exist in a gun violence free community.

Camp members engaged in one of our many fun-filled organized work activities.

The current headlines prompt us to remind you that there has NEVER been a shooting by a student in any of the camp schools and we can GUARANTEE that there never will be!!

For more information, call 1-800-GUNFREE

It's the David and Goliath thing. With a single bullet a man could win, end WWIII and maintain the peace.

One of my favorites.

I have had this article posted on My Site since May of 1999 HERE

I posted it on FR in April of that year and Critter posted a follow up after that thread got almost 300 posts. That thread (which is the oldest one containging it now on FR) is HERE. Now you have kept the faith with it several times , the latest version being this one.

It always brings good discussion.

One of my high school teachers was a firearms/militaria/historical artifact collector.

He used to bring in the best stuff to his classes. Indian arrow heads and lance points. Civil war uniforms. Firearms of the period that he was teaching (this was the 1970's he did not get arrested).

He brought in a Liberator.

What a peice of junk! Sheet metal. Horrible trigger pull, must have been about 20+ pounds, long and gritty. No rifleing in the barrel, must have been horribly inaccurate. Only one shot! Harder to hide than an M1911A1.

But when you have nothing at all such a weapon is a godsend.
