She urges all parents to take advantage of the vaccine. Most of her patients heed her advice, she said, but a few resist. ..."They think, 'The fewer vaccines the better.' This one seems optional to them."

In fact, when the vaccine first arrived on the scene, our pediatrician offered it to us AS AN OPTION. It was offered especially for WORKING MOMS who couldn't afford to take time off of work to stay home with a quarantined child. Only in the last few years has chicken pox become "dangerous".

I got my youngest son the vaccine when I was pregnant with his twin sisters because he had to go into daycare. I was afraid he'd come home with it and expose his baby sisters to it.

I was very glad I did get him the vaccine because his sisters got RSV (respiratory synctial virus) when they were 6 weeks old. They almost died from that, and the meds they were on would have made chickenpox deadly.

I don't think the chickenpox vaccine should be mandatory for school, but I am very thankful that it was available for my kids.

Also, for all of those wondering about shingles, I know of several people that have had shingles in their adult life, and it doesn't sound like fun. It sounds a lot worse than chicken pox.

"Doctors say that serious reactions are rare." The article cites statistics for people who have complications from the disease (not tying it to percentage of total infected) and they can't dig up numbers on bad effects from the vaccine???

Controlled exposure helps you to prepare for a "bad" situation (you know it's coming).

Do the children who've been exposed get exempted from the vaccination? Who's getting $$$ from these vaccinations?

Is early childhood exposure "bad" because it reduces the number of children that must still submit to the shots?

Medical science is a great thing but there are people that believe everything a doctor does is in the best interest of the patient.

What does the yeast and yogurt do(I'm not yet very familiar with such remedies), does it boost the immune system? I beleive Lysine is supposed to be good for that(or at least fighting off cold sores!)

Amen on that being child abuse? Do you listen to Greg Knapp on 570am in Dallas? He's been hammering that story pretty hard for a week now.

They help replace the bacteria until the normal flora move back in. Yogurt (natural kinds) contain a live bacteria that can live inside the intestines but won't harm you and baking yeast will also temporarily live in or on the body ---keeping out pathogenic yeasts. Often when someone comes off antibiotics, because they lack the protection of "normal flora", they get another infection right away.
