This is good. I was a little amazed by the earlier statement that the meeting might be held on Sunday. The delay of one day was for the bombing in Jerusalem? My how cheap life has become, I thought -- it's only worth a one-day delay. But if this is true that's a much better sign.

I guess I'll have to get flamed here. I think he should have had the last meeting with Arafat to explain in person what the US policy would be with dealing with him if he did not get on track....and then after that let whatever Arafat decided on be what Arafat had to live or die for.

Thank goodness, I was actually very afraid for Powell's life. I could not believe they would even consider sending him into a strong hold of terrorists and expect him to come out unscratched.

I'm still trying to figure out why this terrorist leader of a non-nation was ever given diplomat credence, invited to the White House(Clinton--and more than once)or anything but denounced as a terrorist. He has BEEN a terrorist for more than 50 years and his message has NEVER changed.
I hope Powell/Bush Admin. does not cave in the face of sure to come outcries from our "friends" in Europe and the Mid East.

Good. Bring back Powell before he has a chance to stop off and schmooze with any other Islamic scum.

I was watching The Big Story on Fox News this afternoon, and the host said to the former US diplomat he was interviewing that he wondered why Arafat would order such a bombing when it would jeopardize the meeting with Secretary Powell.
I said to the TV, "Look for Arafat to order bombings not just before, but to happen during any meeting he might get with Powell." His whole game plan is for terrorism to influence any negotiations.

Wait a minute! Is it "cancelled" or "postponed"? You have to be accurately when you are speaking with General Yasser Arafat. Be quiet!

Great--thanks for the news.
