Not sure if its the free speech at issue, how about taking something that doesn't belong to you? Now if they were to buy one of those f@g flags and burn it, no problem.

IMHO, this flag of theirs was a blatantly disrespectful mockery of their country's flag.
Yes, they have the right to display it, just as someone has the right to burn a U.S. flag.
They ought not to come crying, however, when someone takes offense and steals their flag or beats the cr*p out of them, however. It won't be a hate crime, it will be an act in defense of America, and those who died for that flag.
I'm not advocating violence toward any group - but it sounds like that is exactly what this group is trying to provoke.

"I saw the flag as trying to copy the flag of the United States of America," he said, "and my patriotic spirit went a little too far."
Ha ha! This is such a typical drunken frat boy excuse. I've used many of these in my day. The unfortunate thing is that he has now given the liberal media a quote that establishes a false link between patriotism and heterosexism. I wouldn't be surprised if this quote were used in the future for further Anti-American purposes.

In fact, since the article said they "tried to burn it at a nearby fraternity house" we should probably assume they are gay indeed!
Okay, that was just dumb. The Greek system is just about the only traditional and conservative stronghold left at predominantly liberal-infested Universities. Why do you think the liberals are repeatedly trying to get them banned?

ok...now you've made me dizzmy....
FMCDH!

Look, its just a bunch of hicks in a very left wing school, who pulled a stupid fraternity prank. This is no big deal and should not be looked upon as anything more. The kids were probably telling the truth about the patriotism. They are probably sick to death of the leftist anti-American attitude in Moscow. I know, I've been there. They don't even celebrate the fourth of July in Moscow, Idaho.

No, you can burn whatever symbol you want as long as you make/buy it yourself. What you can't do is steal the property of a fellow citizen, attempt to destroy it, and then try to pass the whole thing off as misguided patriotism or a simple frat-boy prank. Was it a "hate crime"? No, just simple theft, and they should be punished.

The act of destroying that flag gives it some meaning. Consider it like the UN flag. Ridiculous and not even worth burning.

wait. wait. wait. you can't burn a gay flag, but you can burn the frickin' real one???? You can burn any flag you want, if you own it. If you burn someone else's flag, that's called stealing.

"What about the First Amendment."FIRE!!
To: Timesink
They STOLE the flag. If they'd made their own "gay flag" and burned it, they might have a chance, but not when they've confessed to destruction of stolen property. Put a fork in them, they're done.
Right. And what about all of those conservative newspapers at many, many universities that were stolen and destroyed, in the past 10-20 years? I don't hear anyone calling for the prosecution of the campus leftists who did this.
By all means - punish the flag stealers for stealing. But don't punish them worse because the victimed group is a "protected class".

Argh! I thought you understood what I said yesterday. There are not two creation stories in Genesis. There is one story, told twice with variation, which is expected in ancient writings. That's it. Not two stories. One story. Only one. I still see two distinct versions of the creation story in the Bible.
