UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- Israel told U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Friday that it would welcome a fact-finding mission to look into Israeli military action in Jenin and other Palestinian cities, a U.N. spokesman said.
Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres' phone call to Annan was disclosed as the United States circulated a draft Security Council resolution which would welcome the secretary-general's initiative "with the cooperation of the government of Israel to develop accurate information regarding recent events in the Jenin refugee camp."
