The current technology migration is simply following the natural ebb and flow of things...

"I see the advancement of Japan-China economic relations not as a hollowing out of Japanese industry but as an opportunity to nurture new industries in Japan and to develop their activities in the Chinese market," added the prime minister, an advocate of free-market changes at home.

Hmm, seems I've heard something similar before. At least it's a long swim from China to Japan.

too true, Japan only became the world's second largest economy by having a one party authoritarian state for 40 years.

The Hwang Ho and Yellow River basins, Manchuria, the Korean Penninsula, Primorye, and Japan form a natural temperate zone geographic area with the population, agriculture, mineral, and other resources to be competitive with North America or Europe.

same old same old...

same old argument... China is the biggest... gonna be the biggest... gonna be the best... etc etc...

Thats more a psychological statement than a factual one...

But I guess it depends on what the definition of 'big' is... China right now probably eats more rice per capita than any other nation... thats pretty big...

The strage thing is... most people in the Mainland believe that Japan was 'a puppet for the US' since 1945...

The same thing for Taiwan...

I would venture to say that at least part, if not a great deal of the current CCP are 'puppets for the US' (in that terminology)... right now...

...if you give poor people the vote, you end up with chaotic Third World democracy where the majority-poor population favors big government and socialism over capitalist reforms (India, Indonesia, Russia, S. Africa, etc.)...

I remember reading a theory that talked about that. It was about the natural theory of government evolution. I've tried to find it again since. I remember it being in response to Marx's ideas. This is my best guess recollection:

Societies develop governments to suit their needs. Tribal governments are the first. A leader rules with absolute power but with a general consensus of the governed. If his rules are bad then he will be deposed or people will leave his group to form/join other groups. As the society grows, this becomes inefficient. To obtain more stability monarchies form. The monarch rules absolutely and the people have little say in the government. This will last until a middle class starts to grow.

As the middle class grows, various forms of rights and protections are demanded. The middle class will demand a voice in government and various representive structures will be added. Eventually the middle class will choose directly or indirectly the members of government.

If this is true, attempts to install republics without a middle class will always fail. We should look to the society of a developing country first. If it has little or no middle class, we should recommend a monarch. As a middle class develops, we would encourage the monarch to nurture representative governments.

#1. The CIA was found to be institutionally biased by a Congressionally mandated panel of experts. They are extremely partisan and half unprofessional anyway...

The Chinese economy as a whole, is at least 100 years behind the US...

And there you go again... predicting the demise of the US...

The Chinese mentality..."Carl Lewis and fat old Mr. Chen decide to run a foot race..." "Mr. Chen, not wanting to lose face, takes decided measures to make sure he wins..."

"First he bribes Carl... then he cuts his shoe laces... then right before the race he has thugs go threaten then actually run Carl over with a car..."

Then comes the race...

Carl, with no shoes, a fat bribe, and a broken foot due to an unfortunate auto incident... loses the race"

Then fat Mr. Chen declares that he is better and faster than Carl Lewis...

So...instead of competing... the Chinese sabotage... and try to bring the competition down to their level... 'so they have a shot...'
