Actually, getting rid of the Boobs was already on my list of "54 Ways You Can Help California and the US." But if we can kill two birds with one stone...cool.

Even one conservative Senator from California would be nice. Just one. Same here in Florida. I don't know what happened. The state legislature is firmly in GOP control but both Senators are Democrats (state supreme court is all Dem too but we are fixing to get rid of two of them this fall)

Too many Jews, not enough blacks. You keep score. Enough bumps for this thread.

Liberals such as Lieberman would be screaming about racism in the Senate if the make up didn't benefit him. I don't care if the Senate is 100% Jewish, Rastafarian, Catholic, Baptist or whatever as long as they are conservatives. People such as Daschle, Boxer, Schumer and Kennedy are the ones who think race, religion and ethnic origin are important. So let's hold them to their own value system and ask why Democrats don't allow any blacks in the US Senate.

Wear a combined American/Israeli flag pin on your lapel.

Great links and thanks for the reminder. I kept forgetting to place my order last week HERE for pins. I won't get them until next week because they are on backorder, but I don't mind: the woman I spoke with on the phone told me that this particular pin was very popular... so much so that they were being ordered by the hundreds of thousands!

56. Ask the questions that need to be asked so that truth prevails. Israel will be doomed if Jews refuse to look inward and question the tenets of their faith and politics.

I am supposed to question the tenets of my faith? And question my politics? Why would I want to do that? I am a practicing and believing Jew and a Conservative. I don't question either. I worked all that out years ago.

Okay, they aren't senators, but Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is Jewish, and so are the Diaz-Balarts, Mario, State Senator, and Lincoln (US Rep?), all far right wingers.

Speech referencing Ileana Ros-Lehtinen's parents:

Speaking of freedom, I want to recognize one special couple here, not just as Ileana's proud parents but as defenders of liberty who struggled against Communist tyranny. I saw them smiling back there when their daughter was speaking -- Enrique and Amanda Ros. Why don't -- Amanda, you and Enrique stand up now so we can see you. Some of you, not all of you, know the story, so let me repeat it here.

As successful American entrepreneurs, they've proven once again, like so many here today, that if you're willing to work hard America is still the home of freedom and opportunity like nowhere else on Earth. Ileana tells of how, in 1939, her grandfather took a small boat into Havana Harbor to rescue his cousin who was trapped aboard the SS Saint Louis, a Jew fleeing the Nazi Holocaust. Ileana's grandfather watched helplessly as the infamous ``Voyage of the Damned'' was turned away. And that's why her grandfather helped smuggle Jewish refugees out of Cuba when Castro's tyranny crushed freedom on the island, crushed religious freedom -- crushed all freedom.

Her experiences give her an increased sensitivity to the problems of all oppressed minorities, wherever they may be. She's a strong supporter of Israel, of free emigration for Soviet Jews, and of the freedom fighters who are battling Communist oppression in this hemisphere and overseas. And that is principle; that is tough leadership. And that is Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

Great post but it won't matter to the usual suspects.

Thank you! Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is one of my favorite congress critters. I didn't know what her faith was, I assumed Catholic. She is a great speaker and very impressive when she slips from one language to the next.Didn't know Lincoln Diaz-Balarts, another solid Repubican, was Jewish either. Wonder how both of them feel about the ADL and the Simon Wiesenthal Center never mentioning the antisemitism of Fidel Castro. Sick to their stomachs, no doubt.

Great post but it won't matter to the usual suspects.

Unlike some on this forum, I support people because of their political philosophy, not because of their religion, race or ethnic origin. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen was all over the news here in South Florida when the recount was going on and we were rallying for Bush in the streets. A wonderful rep.

Isn't it great how Republicans don't play Identity Politics, don't wear whatever group they belong to on their sleeve and don't call their political opponents names such as "antisemite" when they disagree with their policies.

There is one thing the history of the Jewish people has proven - the self-questioning never ends. My, has there ever been a people so doubtful of themselves and of God!? If Jews quit agonizing over the meaning of their identity and take merely to blindly defending it, something has gone wrong in the equation of Jewishness. We need to reform Judaism and Zionism so that the warmth of the Jewish people stretches out like a light to all nations. Only until we are all of Israel will there be peace in the world. Does not the Torah teach this? Now how is that going to happen?

That is the real way that we can help "Israel," by answering that question: how will all people of the world be brought into the spiritual "nation of Israel" and be given the hope of God's covenant?

In defense of Larry (and I don't know the details behind whatever squabbling is going on): This thread brings up ethnicity. It specifically calls for those of us reading the thread, as smart western jews, to emigrate to Israel. It tells us how to practive the 613 mitzvahs, or something like that.

Fact: Israel will benefit heavily from drilling in ANWR.

Fact: The Jewish senators highlighted by Larry receive very, very, heavy support from the Jewish community.

Logical Conclusion: Jews should stop supporting the highlighted Jewish senators. That will help Israel.

It is perfectly appropriate that Larry highlighted those who were Jewish because this post is explicity directed at jews, and these senators receive very strong support from the jewish community.

You guys may have a beef with Larry from other threads, but he did nothing out of line here.

If the topic of this thread was school choice, cutting taxes or upholding the second amendment, one might make that charge. There would be no reason to single out Jews. But this thread is about Jews and Israel.

Again, Larry, this thread is about helping Israel. That is no reason for anyone, except those who think like you, to single out the Jews.

Drilling in ANWR does relate to Israel. The money we send to Saddam for oil directly affects Israelis.

Directly affects? Right.

The fact that we are so dependent on Arab oil limits America from acting in the best interest of Israel.

What a crock! We have never acted in the best interest of Israel, nor should we. We have always acted in the best interests of America (as deemed by the whatever government is currently in office). Your charge is as bogus as the rest of your rationalizations.

In that context, it is germane to mention that Jewish members of congress overwhelming opposing America exploiting our own national resources.

Why? Does being Jewish automatically mean you're in favor of Israel? I can show you plenty of Jews who would disagree with you.

Except to the Identity Politics crowd. To the Jesse Jackson types who think opposing AA is racist, the GLSEN types who think not wanting kids to go on scouting trips with gays is homophobic and the Israel crowd on FR who thinks mentioning that Jewish members of congress oppose trying to free America from foreign oil is bigoted.

You know, it occurs to me that you may have deliberately identified those senators because you knew you'd be called on it and wanted to get up on your soapbox with this "Identity Politics" thing. Maybe you should get a different life, Larry.

Don't like to be reminded of how Lieberman and others vote?

If you reminded me about how they all voted, I would have no problem. Picking on LIEberman and others with Jewish sounding names doesn't do you any good. But it seems like you just don't want to accept that.

Don't rag on me for pointing out what everyone knows.

I'm not going to rag on you anymore, at least in this thread. You refuse to acknowledge what I, and a number of others, have pointed out to you. But, go on your merry way, Larry. All of us are just 100% wrong and you are right.

The last comment is yours. I won't waste any time reading it.

What do people have to do? Check in with you or the Simon Wiesenthal Center to make sure it is OK to mention that all the Jewish Democrats in the Senate voted against drilling in ANWR and against cutting the amount of money we send to Saddam Hussein?

Your idea of proper discourse is no different than that of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. You want to shut down speech. You don't want anyone to point out the hypocrisy and antiAmerican stance of certain people. They use threats of calling someone a "racist". You allude to "antisemitism". Same thing. Different label.
