I don't like sucking up to the Saudi's any more than you do! There are other interests at stake here. We have real allies, ie; Turkey, Jordan and the Stans that are in jepardy of over throw by their own religious zealots. We are walking a very shaky line to maintain stability in the region. I think there is never any need to investigate the Palestinians. They commit their crimes in full view of the world and are proud of them. Apparently most of the world finds the murdering of children in their sleep to be "resistance" to "occupation".

I am sure that that "stability" is precisely the reason for the Administration's actions (diplomacy). And I'm also sure it is because America is very vulnerable to economic and military shocks that it is not yet prepared to deal with effectively. And if the middle east blew up and the U.S. military was in no position to respond effectively (short of using nuclear weapons) that would undoubtedly not help our standing in the world at all.

All that said, if the price of such "stability" is alowing the Palestinians the freedom of action and manuever while restraining the Israeli's to merely defensive tactics then the question must be raised: How many dead Isrealis is the price for "stability"? One thousand? Ten thousand? One hundred thousand.

At some point, our policy (our diplomacy) simply trades Israeli lives for time (to adequately rearm and deploy), for stability, for our economy, for world opinion. I, for one, would at least like to get a sense of how many of their lives we're willing to trade for these things. Because that is the end result of our current tack in diplomacy.

To the leftists, the Jewish settlements are the spearpoint of the bad Israeli colonial machine. Better some 5 year old girls die, then a Jew step one foot into what has been, centuries ago, Jewish land.

How many innocents did Stalin kill in order to bring about a "workers paradise"? 20 Million or so? What about Mao? The estimates range from 50-100 million. Of course, to the leftists, these figures aren't important. Better to focus on how many Palestinian terrorists the Israelis legitimately killed, er...massacred in Jenin.

I know many will say the settlers have no right to the land, but killing women and children is dastardly, and deserves condemnation, and lessens the Palestinian cause, but sadly you're right, you'll not see the world community outraged like they are over Jenin. Because they are so blind, they'll not achieve peace in the Holy Land, just more bloodshed. The Israelis cannot back down unless to lie down and die, so to really achieve peace, the leftists should reign in and condenm these attacks on innocents. As they're not doing so, what do you think their REAL motives are? Can you say Final Solution?
