I will judge. Only idiots and fools don't judge. I was reading today about Rodney King who has frittered away 3.8 million dollars. I'd say ole Rod' didn't use good judgment.

Country and rock are one in the same according to the definition of music I adhere to.

I do like some old blue grass and some traditional folk music. My favorite is classical and bagpipes. The best concert I have ever been to was when the Black Watch (English bagpipe marching band) performed in the Asheville, NC Civic Center. Many of the musicians had just come back from fighting in the Faulkland Islands war. Talk about an event with real soul, that was it. They played the most stirring rendition of 'Dixie' I have ever heard. The audience went absoluely berserk.

Music is a very important and integral part of the human experience. Life is too short to waste it on consuming music which has no substance.

Thanks for your detailed reply.

Now I understand exactly where you are coming from.

A question that you may find irrelevant to our discussion, but in reality it is very relevant;

Do you feel someone can be a good person, and be a christian, while listening to rock and country music? Or playing rock, country music?

The Bible tells us there is a world system. Contemporary rock, country and C.C.M. are a part of that world system.
Christians are to have 'no appearance of evil' and be separate from the world (in the world, but not of the world). If a person was a true Christian, but carnal, they could be involved in the above for a while.

But the Bible also tells us :

"Judge not, Lest ye be Judged."

"Those sinners who live in glass houses, let them cast the first stones.

"Love thine enenies and non-believers as if they were your brother."

My Christian Brother, I don't know about you, but I am dang sure not without sin, are you?. I pray for the Lord to forgive me for mine everyday.

Therefore, who am I to stand in judgement of anyone? That is up to the Lord.

Who are we as Southerners to stand in judgement of a Northern born person showing suppport for our flag in the right context? Even if he isn't a saint?

We as Southerners are not without sins in our history.

Kid Rock wrote and recorded song called "Only God Knows Why". It is a beautifull ballad that makes the statement,"The bad comes with the good, and we should thank God for all of it."

When I saw him perform it live, he said a prayer before performing the song.

And who are we as Christians to say that Kid can't be walking with the Lord just because he has performed some mediocre, semi-profane, rock music?

Kid has come out openly and said he did not intend for his music to be marketed to children. He was targeting the 20-30 year old generation, which I am almost in at 34.

To lend a little perspective to this discussion, Kid claims and his reputation is that he does no hard drugs, and never has. Now he does drink and probably smokes a little weed, but no hard stuff.

I, on the other hand, was once a cocaine addict. For a year and a half. I wasn't a bad person, just a confused young man whose let some family issues get the best of him.

It wasn't any rehab or counseling or jail that cleaned me up, I got down on my knees and begged the Lord to help me get clean. That was July,1988 and I've been coke free ever since.

And Brother, I can assure you that I do indeed walk with the Lord. He was with me then, is with me now, and will be there till He is ready to take me home.

So, who am I to stand in judgement of Kid, or anybody else? That is the Lord's business, and he don't like it when we but in to His business.

I am not trying to get you to endorse his music, or even like him. I am just trying to show you the sin in being judgemental.

I ain't interested in a flame war, and have tried to be very respectful.

And trying to get you to understand that everyone who walks with the Lord, isn't perfect. He doesn't expect us to be. That's why He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die at the cross.

I apologize to everyone reading this thread about the religion, I usually try to refrain from posting religious posts, except for prayer threads. But I felt it appropriate for this debate.

Deo Vindice

I will not attempt to answer every single point at this time. I will say these three things:

When the Bible speaks of not judging, it's talking about not judging if a person is a Christian or not, if they insist they are.

When the Bible says, Come out from among them and be ye separate and touch not the unclean thing, it means what it says.

Most people have a hard time accepting the concept that things they do, things they like, can be separated from who they really are. It's pride which keeps us loyal to our things and activities and mannerisms.

This tread started out with an article about a profane, vulgar rocker who uses the Confederate flag in his exhibitionism.

Thanks for your reply.

Your are right, and I will not dispute the fact that he is profane and vulgar. So is the real world.

But you feel he is unworthy to even show public support for the confederate flag because he uses dirty words and plays rock music.

Let me pose another question, I work in a exhibit/museum fixture shop. Sometimes, when a nail goes through my finger, or the table saw kicks back, or when my CNC router does it own thing, I cuss up a storm. Does that make me, the ancestor of Confederate Veterans, unworthy to show support for the flag?

Lastly, I only brought out the Bible because you did. : ^ )

Brother, please know that I am not trying to be a smart aleck, just trying to understand your viewpoint.

I have known and worshipped with a lot of people. And I have a co-worker who is a very strict pentacostal, yet I have not met anyone who holds such strict viewpoint.

And I notice that you are alone on this thread debating that side of the argument.

Would you cuss up a storm if Robt. E. Lee was watching you at your work?

I have known and worshipped with a lot of people. And I have a co-worker who is a very strict pentacostal, yet I have not met anyone who holds such strict viewpoint.

Who hold a stricter point of view?, me or God? (If you need that answered for you, it's God). A Christian must keep in mind that God is first Holy and Pure before He is Loving. The angels who surround the throne are singing "Holy, Holy, Holy", not "love, love, love".

And I notice that you are alone on this thread debating that side of the argument

And so what if am alone? I would rather fear God and do what's right than have 'friends'. The next thing is I am not alone. There are many who believe as I do. In the context of this thread, I may be alone. But so what, I'm not on this earth for my pleasure, but for God's pleasure.
Many people like yourself want to compromise, dabble in worldliness and tell God, "Hey, this is what I want to do."
Just remember the fig tree which looked nice but bore no fruit. Jesus caused it to wither and die, right before everyones' eyes.
