Doing a little investigative work are you? LOL. I don't know where these ideas are coming from that says he's a national candidate with a following that would allow him to get the democrat nomination.... Most polls I've seen have him barely on the radar screen. But that could change as things get closer, but I doubt it will.

Is it me, or have trial lawyers traditionally comprised "the left" in the south? I know that Alabama is THE WORST state in terms of tort abuse by the ambulence chasers.

Edwards? I thought he was going to be the nominee, but Hillary has made sure he won't by toying with his hair tonic....

>> The South has foisted several worthless presidents off on this country. The liberal north saw fit to vote for them en masse <<

Not in every case. Sometimes the "libeal" north largely ignored them but the south voted for their local guys en masse and foisted those guys on the country. Need proof?

Think about this, the DNC does not want to lose a Rat in the Senate from NC. Edwards will not make an official announcement until Bowels gets sworn in!

Considering how fragmented the GOP is in this state Bowels is a shoe-in. How many political ads have you seen for GOP candidates on TV? ZERO! How many Bowels ads have you seen on TV? TOO MANY!

Whats ahead for NC, higher taxes both state and federal, the ultimate end of the textile and tobacco industries, even more Enron style reports on the GREAT economy and all because a bunch of gullible idiots fell for a toothy and charming lawyer. Does all of this sound familiar because it happened in '92 and again in '96!

I've posted on many "Edwards in '04" threads and have said the same thing each time, when he does run he will probably win NC because we have enough fools in this state who will vote for him for the mere fact of having a North Carolinian in the White House (even though he was born in SC)!

HA! Good find Howlin. I guess the good folks of North Carolina were under the impression that if they hired someone as their senator, he'd be their senator. Instead they got some gadfly who spends all his time at fundraisers and smoozing with the people of New Hampshire and Iowa.

"BTW, has a first term senator ever been elected President? I don't think so..."

Actually, yes, just once: Warren G. Harding himself.

I agree that Edward's a junior version of Clinton. As former Senator Kerry said, Clinton is an unusually good liar, unusually good. But Edward's not that good...yet.

No, but he's gaining on 'im reeeeeal fast.

Edwards' pros:

1. He doesn't have much of a record to attack.
2. He has a huge donor base in the trial lawyer community.
3. He's relatively good-looking and would get a lot of female votes.
4. He grew up in a small town, was raised in a blue-collar family, and represented plaintiffs. His populism would be more believable than Gore's.
5. He could tug peoples' heartstrings with stories about his son.
6. He seems to have been a legitimate tort lawyer. (Yes, there are some.)
7. Pretty articulate. Unfortunately, he'd probably run circles around Bush.
8. He could peel off a few of Southern states and make Bush's quest for a second term even more difficult.
9. He has Zig-Zag Zell in his corner.

Edwards' cons:

1. He has very little experience in politics and wouldn't be able to argue that he would lead the War on Terrorism better than Bush.
2. He's a total lightweight; he's vague and speaks in soundbytes.
3. His background as a tort lawyer would provoke a vicious campaign against him by manufacturers.
4. His wife is kind of homely. Of course, so was Gore's, but he still won the popular vote.
5. People don't trust trial lawyers any more than they trust used-car salesmen. On the other hand, there are certainly trial lawyers who do good - the question is whether Edwards can convince people he was one of them.
6. He would probably have to pick a Northerner to balance out the ticket. If he were to pick the loathesome John Kerry, he could lose some Southern states he might otherwise win.
7. His peripatetic schedule has alienated North Carolinians somewhat. People like to see their Senators finish their first term - especially the first year of their first term - before campaigning for President.
8. He would be susceptible to charges of being another Clinton or Carter.

We have our very own viper in the governor's mansion here in Georgia in the person of Roy Barnes. He is slick as a greased eel, and has the bite of a cobra. He's making presidential noises as I speak. Be careful folks, be very careful. A no more deadly politician will not be found outside the bodies of the Clintons.

Actually it was your governor I was thinking of. I couldn't remember his name.

I hope the American sheeple can remember the last Georgia Governor who president.

All anybody needs to know is that 85 percent of his money comes from trial attorneys. That's scarier than Clinton, IMO.

Seeking to raise the millions of dollars needed to run a credible presidential bid, Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) has relied almost entirely on his trial lawyer friends to underwrite his ambitions.

Edwards, a former trial lawyer, has raised $1.39 million for the federal and nonfederal accounts of his New American Optimists PAC since the first check arrived in early November.

Of that total, $1.19 million - 86 percent - came from lawyers, their employees or their family members, according to a Roll Call analysis. No other Congressional leader or potential presidential contender has such a heavy reliance on a single industry for their leadership PAC.

Biggest con, imho....he co-chairs the Senate prayer breakfast, but is a staunch defender of abortion (including "partial-birth"), the NEA (is anti school choice), and his speeches to law students are full of divisiveness....pitting one group against each other for personal powers' sake, young vs. old, white vs. black, rich vs. poor...the world's one big mass of groups that intentionally hold down other groups, according to Edwards (Castro, Lenin, Hitler---sorry, but true). The Bible says just the opposite...that we are not to blame others for our troubles, but are to forgive others even as God, for Christ's sake has forgiven us. We are supposed to work hard, be humble...and love our neighbors. Where in the Bible does it say to make your neighbor dependent, to weaken him with flattery and fear for personal gain?

Edwards biggest con, he sounds convincing as a "preacher"...and Christians who look no further than the latest major media puff piece will believe that he is.
