O'Reilly had a very pretty Eurasian reporter

That was Michelle Malkin and she's as American as you or me. Me, anyway. She was born in Philadelphia. Her parents are Phillipino imigrants.

Her bio

Clean up our own acts and set a good example for our kids and others. Don't just go with the flow. And like the author of this column, speak out when you see indecent behavior. Call it what it is, inapporpriate, base, offensive and unacceptable.

Did 'polite society' really expect non-Christians to hide their faith?

Based upon my conversations with my grandparents, it wasn't really an issue. Religion just wasn't discussed in public. It wasn't like Christians back then were going about in public being obnoxiously Christian; their behavior was just the result of their faith.

I suggest that you teach your children right from wrong, teach them to respect others and themselves, teach them manners, to say yes sir and no ma’am and please, teach them kindness and gratitude, but do not teach them with your words only but also your deeds. For it is our children who will change this country and if we do not teach them well, they will not be well prepared for the job ahead.

FYI... Yes, I have lived these words. My children are grown now. They are God loving and well mannered, respectful and respected and are raising the next generation to be the same.

Pop-culture and cult of the celebrity highlight low behavior and encourage everyone to partake in the debauchery.

My, my, you just described the Clinton/Gore administration........

I don't envy you, but we got through it being tough loving parents and it shows in our children and some wonderful grandchildren. Hang in there!

There's no such thing as community in many places in the US today, if not most places -- especially cities. Small neighborhoods or communities which have a distinct sort of personality are fading away or gone altogether. In some, mostly newer, places, it was never there to begin with.

I am only 33, but when I was growing up in Seattle (especially when I was very young), each area of Seattle had its own flavor and indentity. You may not know everyone, but you knew enough people who in turn knew you that there was a sense of relationship -- of community. You helped your neighbors when they needed it and knew something of their lives and families.

These days, this sort of thing seems mostly superficial, dry and stale. It is like people go through the motions without any feeling or passion. People are focused strictly on themselves, their family, and their friends, and if you are outside of those circles, then you weren't worth their time (unless you were being paid).

The Seattle of today is a mere ghost of its old self. The quirkiness is gone. The silly things we did in summer, gone. Sure, there are still events and activities, but they are bland and stale: little different than any other city. Seattle has gone from a nice, quirky town to just another big city. JP Patches, Ivar, Seattle Slew: you are gone now. Almost Live: gone, too.

I make mention of this not to speak only of my city, but because I am sure that most cities in the country have experienced the same growing staleness and lack of personality, but maybe I'm mistaken in that.

this is what the Ten Commandants teach, respect for others in your home or public places among other things...laws that try to keep human behavior in line to some degree.

Some of the commandments, but certainly not the first two.

The part about "visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation" seems especially intolerant of diverse religious opinion to the extent of holding great-great grandchildren responsible for the religious choices of their great-great grandparents.

It doesn't seem to be either "great literature" or uplifting moral guidance. It just seems mean, nasty, petty.

It is certainly not a document a religiously neutral government should be endorsing.
