"Why haven't you heard about it?"
Isn't "war" a great diversion from what's happening on the home front?

I think you misunderstood my post. I was merely poking fun at blind supporters of Bush who refuse to recognize that, in fact, Bush has reversed himself according to his own principles and has betrayed conservative principles on more than one occasion (
click here). They refuse to accept any criticism about Bush as legitimate and worthy of consideration, because to them, Bush is no less than a god, a messiah come to deliver us from the evils of the Clinton Administration.
I realize Bush has done many good things, such as those you mentioned in your post, that are deserving of praise. I would also add to the list the tax cut, a freer antitrust environment, and of course, the 9/11 response. But none of this is related to my poetic parody because Bush himself isn't my target - it's his worshippers I'm after.

"Al Gore would have given us a bigger farm bill"
So, are you saying that "piece meal" erosion of our freedoms are acceptable? That's what's happening with the republicrats. Check it out for yourself by doing an overview of bush's embracing the dem's domestic programs.
And, please, no insults, address the issues presented and show us "bushbasters" where we are wrong.
When will you admit that there is no difference between the parties except that the dems tell us outright that they want big government and high taxes while bush and his ilk "put us to sleep" while accomplishing the same ends, which is to say, totalitarianism. Don't forget about the Gestapo Law, oops, excuse me, the p.a.t.r.i.o.t law.
And, please, don't attach some machiavellian convoluted political genious to bush's actions.
One more thing, where do we have the right to tell Israel to show restraint when we immediately bombed (rightly so) afghanistan? Their people are being murdered on a daily basis. It is one thing to kill a soldier in battle, but quite another to murder civilians.

Could somebody tell me the point of vetoing a bill with overwhelming, veto-proof support in both sides of Congress during an election year where critical Senate races are in the Midwest?

I note that you fail to mention some of the other deeds by this administration that are not looked upon too favorably. You just talk about "the good stuff" that's been done. Typical.Let me rephase that:

I'll let you lead by example.

Moreover, some subsidies actually restrict supply. The peanut subsidy/quota program that made the Carter family wealthy is a good example.

Could somebody tell me the point of vetoing a bill with overwhelming, veto-proof support in both sides of Congress during an election year where critical Senate races are in the Midwest?Way too full of pork and much too expensive! ..,.......
That's why!
Personally, I am not convinced that he is going to sign this. I really hope he does not, and sends it back for some cutting. It is way too expansive.

Principles.

My apologies to you. I agree with your post #22, Bush is no God, has made many misteps, and some outright wrong things.
I've just had it with the bashers, and intend to bash back some myself. Sorry I mistook your post for a blind bash of Bush.

Let me rephase that:
I like my own sentence better.
I'll let you lead by example.
There are plenty of other "examples" on this thread already. I can follow as well as lead, and I'm more than willing to let others take the lead they've already assumed in this instance.
Berate someone else.

Sorry I mistook your post for a blind bash of Bush.
And what did you take my reply to be? A "blind bash" or an open-eyed assessment?
I've just had it with the bashers, and intend to bash back some myself.
So there is no reasoning behind your "bashing back" other than that you've "just had it with the bashers". Amazing.

Your error in logic is to say that Bush supporters are blind. In actuality, it is you and the rest of the half-percenters that are blind. What do I see?
A 70 year old subsidy that is not the fault of the current Prez.
A subsidy that Carter and then Regean tried to reform with a resulting disaster.
The changes that the Republican Revolution Congress made had to be mitigated on a yearly basis which made it hard for you to see.
Only Congress has the authority to approprate and if Bush's budget is not to their liking, they will change it.
The political benefits of farm subsidies to members of Congress vastly outweighs the benefits that the President might recieve.
There is no line item veto and Bush would have to suffer the repercusions if he did veto. Although there are some that say there would be an overide, let's ignore that possibility and the associated disaster. A veto(aka messin' with my pork) would result a total lack of co-operation from Congress. A relatively weak Bush would have to forget getting his agenda thru Congress.
When the benefit of subsidies to the the consumer is discussed, no one ever mentions the value of turning starch into protein, cheaply.
Please BillyBudd, throw off your blindness and focus on Congress. That is where the problem lies.

You seemed to be easily amazed.

Berate someone else.If you will follow this up the thread, you will see that you began the berating by including yourself in the 'Bush Basher' club and repling to me. Guilty conscience may apply here.

Oh boy, I must be misspeaking today, because you've misunderstood me too. I didn't say "blind supporters", in the sense that all supporters are blind, but in the sense that out of Bush's supporters, some are reasonable in praising his good deeds and criticizing his contradictions, while some are blind in only praising him and ignoring his mistakes. I thought my post made this clear - in fact, I indicated that I support a number of good actions he has taken.
I agree that an existing subsidy is not Bush's fault. That is why I measure a politician's success by how he advances freedom relative to the existing system, not relative to some utopian ideal. I've already stated why I think farm welfare is a bad idea, so no need to repeat that. But I don't think Bush has to sign it. There certainly doesn't need to be an 80% increase in farm welfare. What we need right now is a man of principle who is willing to take the short-term risk to prevent the long-term disaster: welfare dependency for conservative states. It doesn't take much of a man to bend to the political winds to avoid the slightest pain - Clinton did that. I hope Bush can be a different kind of man, but I doubt it.
To: Balding_Eagle
You seemed to be easily amazed.
Easily filled with wonder or astounded? Yes, I'm easily astounded at the reasoning for your actions. Why shouldn't I be since your reasoning in this instance is such a dubious thing.

Check out this graph I saw on a FReeper's profile page:
