I'm an aerospace engineer (just missed the top 50), and anytime anyone mentions "metrics" in my presence, I sweetly inquire, "How was it that we were able to put men on the Moon without metrics?"
Busywork for bean-counters.
We had metrics during the Apollo days. They were called "cost" and "schedule". They were--and remain--the only "metrics" that matter.
