The 4% figure came from the Governor's office. May I ask where the $57,000 figure came from? I sure would like to spread that around.

Murkowski spokesman Joe Brenckle said his boss was not using blame-the-victim tactics.

It still sounds like it and that is a democratic party rallying cry. I think a better approach would be that California when faced with the fact that its energy market was not working (i.e. when the republicans in the state legislature called for an extra summer session to deal with the problem and when FERC imposed penalties---that they later forgave--on Cal to stop underscheduling day ahead power) those leading California (i.e. Gov Davis and the legislature) took no action that when they were repeatedly urged to take action. A doctor can not be held responsible for the health of a patient that will not take his or her medicine. California Democratic party controlled , beside repeated explainations and attempts by others to get them to make changes in the State's energy policy, acted like a deer in the headlights of a car and would not move to save itself.

Even politicians can be victicrats. The California politicians are sick in the head to blame other people. This is their responsibility, they should own up to their faults and fix the flawed laws (which, I might add, they haven't even attempted to do since all this shook out). Davis and the state were asking for it, first with the insane attempt at deregulation, and then by trying to negotiate with the energy suppliers using strong arm tactics.

No matter what, the politicians will never be as smart as the businessmen. Never. They shouldn't even try to outsmart the businessmen. The businessmen are 100% focused on their businesses. The politicians are 100% focused on getting reelected. This puts the pols at a severe disadvantage in almost every scenario. And long after the pols are gone, the businessmen will still be there plugging away.

Not sure if it is 4%, but the following San Jose Mercury News Article puts the Enron impact in perspective about $40 Million out of the claimed $8.6 Billion that Davis likes to state was over charged. The article even says the max Cal is likely to get back under the current methodology is about $500 million.

Hope this helps some.

Article in San Jose Mercury that quantifies the potential refunds and concludes Enron, while a politically interesting situation, was hardly the big impact that the press and Gov Davis are making it out to be.

There were two articles posted here on FR that cited the figure. There was a single invoice -- for 200 MwH @ $285/MwH. One of them was, I think, in Investor's Business Daily.. The other, as I recollect, was written about the Enron bankruptcy, rather than the Cal Power Crisis. Unfortunately, I didn't bookmark them.

The $285 rate was also confirmed by one of the documents released by the governor's office to substantiate their "price gouging" claims. I found it strange that, for all the grief Enron had taken from Davis and Lockyer, they ranked only 9th among the Top 10 "gougers".

You darn conservatives keep bringing up old news to trash our great governor.

This is old news. It was posted yesterday. You awful conservatives need to realize that Herr Davis needs millions to push the Gay Agenda, to kill thousands of innocent babies in their mothers wombs, to insure high paying jobs for his voting cults like the teachers and prison guards, and to have money to pay the descendents of slaves for their votes. Also free medical care, housing, food, legal services to sue your white a$$es and a bi lingual person every two feet in Kali for the illegal alien voters is not cheap.

Your posting of this old news never tried a white honky for a hate crime nor does it feed a starving gay child, age 21 and over.

Herr Davis has to stop that super rich white religious honky Simon to make Kali safe for Davis's diverse maggots who vote several times each election for him. So back off!

The analogy to Clinton is appropriate, except for the total lack of personality............

Oh, I dunno. Having the personality of a five-day old dead fish got graydavis pretty far.

I do not even know what that is, but it sounds like a derivative of RAISON BRAN. Do you think he is going to wear it?
