Listen to yourself. So if we rounded up every illegal immigrant (I would not object, btw), men would no longer prey on teenage girls over the internet?

The was a time when a conservative editor would have nixed the mention of this guy's illegal status as not being germane to the story. Now the information is included as red meat, and conservatives tear into it like dogs. Boy, has the world changed.

Computers did not get her into trouble. She did it to herself!

Whether or not illegals should be deported probably shouldn't be decided by this case.

I agree with you completely, but a lot of freepers don't. Basically, everytime an immigrant does anything wrong, the anti immigrant freepers come out of the woodwork. There may or may not be a good case for closed borders, but an individual incident does not make your case.

Because they're here ILLEGALLY, they should all be sent home.

I thought Catholic schools taught kids how to spell.

It sounds like the public schools had her for way too long. She's typical of their culture. .."She was recently baptized as a Catholic."

Mine is around the corner from the kitchen, but the coat closet doors are mirrored so I can see everything when I am cooking (with 4 boys, we cook alot!). It works great for football and hockey games as well.

Saul Dos Reis, 25 ... an illegal Brazilian immigrant ... came to the United States when he was 10
He's been here 15 years, worked at his father's Port Chester restaurant, graduated from Greenwich High School in 1997 (at 20 years old???!!!). What a peculiar history.

It's time for parents to say NO to surfing the internet for anything other than homework......and that should be supervised too!

There are two things that responsible parents can do to protect your children on-line.

First and foremost: GET RID OF AOL. In case some of you don't understand what I just said, allow me to repeat myself: GET RID OF AOL. Although there are other internet service providers that offer chat rooms and instant messaging, AOL is by far the most popular among teens. Indeed, I cannot ever recall reading about a case such as this that involved an ISP other than AOL. No wonder AOL is the apparent ISP of choice for cybercops looking for kiddie perverts.

Second, Learn to track you kids' on-line activities. There are literally dozens of files on your computer that keep track of on-line activity if you know where to look. Tell your kids that you are looking and that they had better not stray beyond the parameters that you have set, and then do it.

I do not have AOL on my computer and I have told my daughter exactly why I'll never install it on any computer that I own. (Although there are lots of reasons, I focus on the perverts.) About three weeks ago, my daughter hosted a sleep over. Two days after all the girls went home, I snooped around some computer files and discovered that they had accessed AOL online through the ISP that I use. I asked my daughter why she was using AOL when I told her not to, and she said she wasn't using it. Her response proved very clintonesque because while she technically wasn't using AOL, she was sitting in a chair next to her friends as they accessed AOL through my ISP. For violating the household prohibition regarding AOL, my daugher lost all on-line privideges, including e-mail, for a month. For lying like Bill and Hill Clinton, she has lost the right to attend the next sleep over

The tragedy has also been devastating to her classmates at St. Peter, where she transferred last fall and was co-captain of the cheerleading squad. Counselors will be on hand at the school today - where the flag flew at half-staff.

Last fall, after her parents' divorce, Christina left her hometown of New Milford and moved into her aunt's two-story house. She was recently baptized as a Catholic.

It takes a while to purge what public education has sown

Illegally for 15 years? What the heck does the INS do all day? No wonder there's so many terrorist in this country.
Why are any of them allowed in the taxpayer funded public schools?

With the nuns gone and the rise of the "spell check generation," spelling skills have declined among us Catholic School graduates and current students.

Beats me. Greenwich, Connecticut isn't exactly an anonymous ghetto. I can see calling his parents illegal immigrants, but someone who's been here 10 years and gone through the school system? Something about this story is weird.

Our only online-computer is in the kitchen--and the tv runs through it also. I get to watch what they're doing online, what they're watching on tv, and what kind of homework they've got--all while I cook!

When mine get older, they'll have free roam of the Internet, and instructions on what they can and can't do.

Of course it'll all be going through a server that will log all WWW visits and block or record chat and IM.

Didn't know there was a sizeable Brazillian population in Greenwich. Mostly legal, they tend to settle in areas earlier populated by Euro-Brazillians.

I also forget that Connecticut is not as segregated as Long Island!

I always warned my daugher never to get involved with anyone one meets on the Internet.

And to think this killer is the kind of person Bush wants to give amenety to.

Its a tragedy what happened to this young girl. I still don't see how I can protect my children (if I ever have any) from the temptations of the internet.

She probably thought it would be cool to meet an "older guy" from the "wrong side of the tracks."

I believe that Mr. Reis had a "guilt complex" over being a married man seducing a minor and, sick f--k that he was, killed the girl to relieve his "guilt." He should know that slightly built Brazillian boys are "prized" among Mustafa X and his pals at the local penitentiary.

Euro-Brazillians

Make that Euro-Portuguese. Down-neck Newark has seen an influx of Brazillians as the Portuguese move out to other areas.
