Lived there 34 years. Took to carry when enrolled at Tulane School of Engineering and had a night job cleaning buildings AND a large number of folks were murdered in a 6 block radius of my apartment. Played in local bands(bass/Mr. Make-It-Work/Hook-stuff-up) for many years(as a 2nd or 3rd job), wandered the Quarter at 3~4 a.m. after gigs...in the 1970's ~ 1980's. Now, I wouldn't go down there if you paid me!

Right on the money about PC(parade wreckers!) and poli-crook-ians....Texas is my home now for 12 years and will remain so. You did forget to mention what I've noticed MORE when I go to see relatives stuck there:

1) A lot of the "World owes me" attitude.

2) I now call NOLA "The City that forgot to care".

he was carrying a gun...

Not only a gun, but a sawed off shotgun! Definitely a no-no! According to recent Federal protocols, that calls for the death of his wife and children at the hands of Federal agents...

I agree that the Sikh Regiment was outstanding for bravery. You, however, may be interested to know that when I was in Vancouver, Canada a month ago, the lead story on the news was *another* shootout in the Indo-Canadian area. When I asked a Canadian friend about it, she said they were the people from India who get into fire fights. I asked her where the h3ll they got guns, since they'd all been confiscated. The answer of course was that only the honest citizens were disarmed.

When I went up two weeks ago, the lead story was about two couples with a full arsenal being arrested in a motel about five miles from me in the south suburban Vancouver area.

Golly, it's swell to be an unarmed tourist there, eh?

I've got a former girlfriend in the Vancouver area from whom I get an annual Christmas card and a few e-mails every now and again. Her reports are that hardware well beyond but including personal handguns are no problem to come up with, and at prices a good bit better than in the US. Happily, there's no shortage of hardware, concealable and otherwise for those who travel in biker circles ,of which I happen to be one. An *unarmed tourist* I am not, though the restrictions just mean that it's imprudent to try crossing borders and other jurisdictional limits with one, and it's helpful to have one awaiting at your destination.

I've got that covered nicely now.

It probably wasn't "sawed off". Anyone with any knowledge of shotguns knows that sawing off the barrel of a pump-action weapon wouldn't save a whole lot of space, as you still have the length of the action and the tubular magazine (can't saw them off, you know). It was more than likely a an 18-inch barreled riot gun, like a Mossberg or Winchester. Those dumba**es in the media know nothing about guns, so they probably just used the term "sawed off" because it has more shock effect.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Not necessarily.

Witnesses said a man tackled the shooter after the gun jammed or misfired.

A suspect was taken into custody, said airport spokeswoman Michelle Dufourc. It was not known if the suspect and victim knew each other. Their identities were unavailable.

I sure hope that the "suspect" taken into custody was the shooter that this man tackled...

DFU,

How the heck did I miss this story?
I'd doubt I'd have heard about this unless I'd heard Michael Medved raiing about how this
story from New Orleans had
basically been buried (as Medved covered the LAX July 4th "not-a-terrorist act" incident.

Of course, I should have known I'd find you got here before me...

I'm sending this story to some relatives/friends!

Do I keep repeating it? Security begins at the perimeter, not inside the terminal.
