Glad to hear homeschoolers' did well. With any luck (and $)my youngest will be homeschooled

Actually it's not going to take that many $'s to homeschool. Just commitment and sacrifice. Something my wife and I are willing to do for our children.

Semper Fi!

The Seattle P-I has a follow up story today:
Kent boy takes third in geographic bee after controversial call hurts chances
Eighth-grader Erik Miller of Kent took third place yesterday in the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C., after a controversial call hurt his title chances.
Miller, who is home-schooled, correctly responded to a question about Indonesia as the bell rang. Moderator Alex Trebek of "Jeopardy" fame ruled that Miller answered too late. The contest was halted and the tape reviewed before the ruling was upheld.
"I could've gotten a better placement if some of the calls were in my favor," Miller said after the finals.
All the same, the 14-year-old won a $10,000 scholarship in the annual contest. Jet lag aside, Miller -- who plays the violin and piano and takes part in soccer and track -- said he's feeling good.

To put this in perspective, 1.7% of school-age children are homeschooled.

Yes, but these children would do VERY poorly in the National Diversity Bee, since they don't have the benefits of socialization in large-city schools.

I know, I know. We are depriving our children of SO much. The shame. < /sarcasm >
